DVD RW driver

what operating system is installed and what does the drive appear as in device manager?

i take it youve already tested whether or not it can read a dvd?

first i would check the properties of the drive (right click the drive in dev manager) and then driver > driver details to see if some other software attached some erroneous driver thats causing a conflict. maybe you installed some 3rd party burning software/mounting tool or some such?

if theres nothing apparent there.. try simply uninstalling the drive. right click and uninstall via device manager, reboot, and see if that fixes your issue.

if not.. then i would suggest removing the upper/lower filters.. but you mentioned that they didnt exist though?

are you positive you checked in the correct area of the registry?

if no key exists you can try creating one with this method:

Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run box.
Type regedit in the Run box, then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow
In the navigation pane, locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi
Right-click atapi, point to New, then click Key.
Type Controller0, and then press Enter.
Right-click Controller0, point to New, and then click DWORD(32-bit) Value .
Type EnumDevice1, and then press Enter.
Right-click EnumDevice1, click Modify....
Type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
Exit Registry Editor.
Restart the computer.
