Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Quick question about battery/alternator.

I have a 10yo car. A couple of times in the the last few days, the battery has been dead and I've had to get a jump start. Nevertheless, the red 'Battery Not Charging" light on the dash hasn't come on.

Am I right in thinking that this isn't an alternator problem (as the red light would come on of it was), but that it's more likely to be that the battery is old and can't hold a charge anymore?

Is a new battery likely to sort this for me?

    Thanks in advance.

It would be more than likely the battery. A motor factors or some tyre centres would test your battery for you, so too most if not all garages.

Do you have a voltmeter or multimeter? If so, measure the battery voltage with the car turned off and then again when it's running. In general, if the alternator is working, the voltage will be higher when the car is running. Or, as RJ said just get yourself down to your local garage and they will do a proper load test on your battery.
