Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Planning is well underway for the Junior Tour Trust Sportive.
All details are on the poster with the event being pre entry via:
    https://eventmaster.ie/event.php?event_id=631

There will be a 57km route and a 112km route. With the good will of so many offering their time, there should be no shortage of cover for this one, but as they say, many hands make light work.

Details of the route will be announced shortly but in the mean time, start shedding the Christmas calories and pencil this is as the first target of the year for the Racers/Sportive Specialists.

Sounds a bit ominous, this isn't a race in disguise by chance I don't fancy 112k on my tobler :D

You're not putting the Junior leisure riders in with the A3 leisure riders I hope?

It's OK you can opt to upgrade to the A2 Leisure Group and avoid having to mingle with the kids ...

What does it mean by Junior Tour, is this just for under 18's?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 650 ✭✭✭jimm

112km route (from a reliable source). Best to wait till it's official though.

The Junior Tour Trust Sportive has been established to ensure the future of the Junior Tour of Ireland cycling race for 16-18 year olds. Many names have passed through the race in its 35 year history, with some moving onto professional careers and some using it as their first stepping stone into stage racing.

The sportive will take the format of 2 routes, approx. 100km and 50km with full vehicle coverage and refreshments served afterwards.

No. It's a fundraising event for the Junior Tour and is open to all.

I might sign up for that, if I'm b0lloxed by going off too fast early on I could just cycle on home from Enfield :D

    Hi all,

The event in Cork was a great spin, but somewhat of a speedy sportive too. Eventually though, and with a combined age of over 70, my Bianchi and I could eventually say we raced (for) the Junior Tour!

Wishing this event equal success and the very best to Alice and crew,

Do the route of the sportives be marked out or is it a case of finding your own way around?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,452 ✭✭✭TheBlaaMan

Looks like it is also the same day as one of the regular first sportives of the year, the Barrow Wheelers Sporting 100k from New Ross....... :(

Usually, and I would say certainly in this case, the routes are marked.
I would also say, that you will not be alone.

I have a suspicion this event will be organised with military precision! I don't think there's much chance of anyone getting lost or left behind

we don't leave anyone alone in the junior tour so I imagine the same ethos will apply.

I have done all of the Morgan Sparrow sportives, which are based at Baldonnel Aerodrome. They are superbly organised, with lead cars, motor bike marshals, signage, water and food stops, punctuality, etc.
If this event is, in anyway, related to the Morgan Sparrow, it will run flawlessly.

Between the two routes, to be split pro rata on numbers to ensure best cover:
    Minimum 6lead cars
    Minimum 10 motorcycle marshals
    Minimum 4 support cars
    2medical vehicles
    2 broom wagons
A dozen personnel to assist with parking and enquiries. Don't worry, cars will be safe here :-)

All of whom work multiple events throughout the year and are some of the most dedicated volunteers in Irish cycling.
Minimum 4 registration desks split in alphabetical order to minimise queuing.

2 distinctively different directional arrows, (long route red arrow on whit background, short rout black arrow on yellow background)

There will be no food stops out on the course as I am conscious of the time of year and temperatures, stopping and restarting will not be good for anyone so fuel the tank and keep the engine ticking over.
Hot drinks with soup and sambos on the agenda after with various decent raffles.
Not bad for €20 if you ask me.

Sounds great; no faffing about looking for cake. Great value for that price. Will round up the squad!

does the entry fee, €20, include the CI one day licence (i dont have any, am only a leisure/sportive beginner, but i should be able to handle the 50km route)

Yes that should be fine. I haven't gotten the rate from CI. but it can vary for a Sportive from 50c to €2 for a one event licence so its nothing to major

Correction, according to the CI 2015 handbook, it is now a fixed cost:

So, if one signs up in advance on the website, when does one purchase the CI day licence? Does that have to be done in advance also or can you pay €2 on the day out in Baldonnell?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,409 ✭✭✭sullzz

Is it strictly pre register or can you sign up on the morning of it , not sure if I can definitely make it yet .

The one day licence can be arranged on arrival.

It is pre register only but it will only be closing midday the day before hand
