Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I had the monkfish goujons last time, they were absolutely ****ing fantastic, plan on giving the calimari a go next time. Some of the specials they have up on their facebook page look incredible. They were packed out the door with people waiting for seats when I was there last.

I think they've really hit a sweet spot with their pricing too, with a lot of menu items under or around the €10 mark, it doesn't feel like you're spending too much at all.

Wonder if this will turn out like the Rahoon~Westside~Knocknacarra thread?

Salthill has suddenly annexed Henry Street.

Well with the mention of Jack Jordans earlier in the thread, either Salthill has grown to encompass doughiska, or the thread stopped being about just Salthill some time ago.

It's all part of a healthy Fish & Chips obsession. :)

If I had the money, I'd open up a proper Takeaway, having grown up in Cork City (and having my family own a takeaway), I'd bring some good takeaway products to Galway.

But I don't have the money to do so... Ah well!

Ah, we'll just have to manage somehow ;)

I know this will be sacrilegious but does any of the mentioned places have skinny fries with the fish?

Noooo *the clue was in the word 'fries' vs chips

Seriously though everyone to their own, but while some do love the skinny fries, never thought they go well with fish at all (except in an emergency road stop anywhere you get it in a basket, fish breaded, and you'd probably eat a shoe from hunger).

Hooked has delicious (but fat) chips, almost like twice fried?

Can you not just slice them in half?
Fish will probably be gone cold by the time you're finished though.

Most Cork people have a chip on their shoulder all right.

Tried the Fisherman in Salthill for a simple fish and chips. Fish was very greasy and overcooked. Chips were ok. Mushy peas were regular small peas mashed up, very dry and looked pre-prepared. Wasn't a touch on Hooked.

thumbs up for hooked, fish cooked to perfection and chips chunky and not soggy from grease. Best in Galway.

    From Hillbilly's?

I was in there on Saturday and noticed the sign that seemed to say that. I asked them and they said no, the sign was about not bringing in outside food. Okay, says I and ordered.

Card machine wouldn't work, so I left it.

TL:DR, staff said takeaway is allowed, but I didn't actually leave with any food so I can't confirm.

There's a supermacs with a working card machine a few doors up the road as well :-)

With a queue to eternity on the first Saturday of the Christmas market.

    Not a hope.

Part of their planning permission was that takeaways weren't allowed anyway. Unless it changed.
