Heat exchanger fault

Just got a heat exchanger replaced in a glow worm boiler. The exchanger actually warped, causing the water supply/return connections to lift and ultimately detach from the seals - resulting in a bad leak. The exchanger has no visual damage / no scorch marks, nothing. Would it be worth pursuing the manufacturer to cover the cost ( maybe its a design flaw )or would it be a waste of time ( this happens all the time and is to be expected) ?

    How old is the boiler?
    Was it ever serviced? (yearly?)
Is you system water correctly inhibited and clean?

This and more is what would be involved, and ultimately if the boiler was more than 12/24months old, your warranty is long expired eitherway

Thanks for the input DG. The boiler is prob 5 yrs old. So I'm guessing its not worth pursuing. Its just that the installer mentioned that he had not seen one actually buckle before & perhaps it was a design flaw that might be recognised by glow-worm....but perhaps not.

Even if it was, would be extremely difficult to get them to claim responsibility

Out of interest DG, have you ever come across a similar case ?

Have come across plenty of burst heat exchangers, sludge and limescale usually being the culprit.

Had one glow worm cook the fan until it case hardened and it smashed like glass!

Make sure the RGI has checked burner pressures and gas rated the appliance to ensure it's not over firing

He did make a point of letting me know that the above was carried out. Thanks again for your input DG. Much appreciated.

Yu may need to cleanse/flush and inhibit the system to prevent any reoccurrence
