    Just a heads-up.

When The Bridge comes to an end next week it will be replaced by a new 12 part Belgium series Salamander
"Salamander is a gripping, edge-of-the seat thriller - it will make a fantastic addition to our Saturday nights on BBC Four."

Having recently tuned into an episode of the dreck that is Silent Witness, tonight served as a further reminder of how well things are done by our Danish and Swedish friends. Decent dialogue and interaction, no half baked forensic psychology tripe.

    2.07, 2.08

For the first portion of #7 I thought they were easing off on Saga's mannerisms. They quickly put a stop to any such thoughts with the mother in law encounter, boyfriend (oh how I loved Saga's chat with Martin in the lift) and her charging at the bereaved father asking about porn! They seem to do pretty well with their budget, although my guess is the incident at the plant with the hazmat team, etc was an exercise the show may have latched onto. Now we also know Saga's connection with Munchausen. The dying CEO can certainly handle herself in meetings alright. Not sure what to expect re what the 'graduation' will be. Thought it was going to be something to do with the bald security guy and the other bloke who checked into the hotel, er, no. :pac: Laura's dad seemed a bit off from some of the earlier episodes, but I guess he was just being protective.

I'm not sure Martin has 'won', or indeed if Jens will see out the rest of the series. The surveillance the brother Oliver is doing is just, I don't...presumably his motivation if, as implied, he's behind it all, is to get back at his sister she got the company gig?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

Seriously have no idea how Jakob maintains a relationship with Saga, break up coming me thinks. Those lift chats are epic, her crass insensitivity when interrogating as opposed to questioning the Dad re the porn connection just added to the litany of inappropriate social interactions.
No real surprise re the Munchausen's,she'll possibly open up re it in the finale?Oliver seems to be in love with his sister, very touchy feely!Quite an inappropriate voyeur.Appears to have been quite hurt re Victoria's cutting remarks re his failure to assume ownership of the company.Laura has identified him as the shooter,is he the mother of three??
Bald security dude was the Greens leader in Borgen, glad Martin has chosen to commit to Mette. He definitely did'nt win, rubbed Jens up the wrong way.Not real indication he's remorseful and he was always aware of the significance of his crimes.
Seriously what's the need for the massive special services units every time they do a stakeout?
Still ain't got a clue how the graduation at the EU meeting will play out.

The quality is still so high, will be disappointed when it ends next week. Sad to see the end of Rasmus, really thought he would have proven himself to Saga in the end. It seems like that is the last we see of Jens, it is probably for the best. There was not much left in that storyline, at least for this season. Poor Jakob, if Saga ends this season still with a boyfriend it will be a shock.

So Oliver is behind it all, it will be interesting to see the motivations behind it. It is likely he killed Claudio because he slept with his sister, but it will be interesting to see why he planned the terrorist attacks.

So I blitzed through season one and the first half of season two over the last few weeks, and am now up to date. What an exceptional programme this is. Such consistently strong characterisation that resists taking the easy route at every opportunity. Saga is a challenging lead character, but the performance is a tour de force. I love the patchwork plotting, all these subplots that finally coalesce into one cohesive whole. Obviously a whole lot of it is contrived and coincidental, but the writers work it so elegantly that it's rare indeed that plot developments stand out as particularly forced or random (although still not sure what the story with that whole
    wig business
    in season one was :pac:)

Anyway, season two has been a bit of a whirlwind so far, incredible amount of plot and characters going on but the writers / directors / cast have managed to pull off the juggling act with grace. The Jens scenes initially felt awkward, but think they were particularly strong in the last few episodes, a very morally dubious 'victory' at best. The Oliver character is something of a creepy enigma at the moment (that masturbation scene ensured things escalated pretty quickly in establishing him as something more than a bit of an asshole), so really intrigued where they're going with that.

Just got round to the latest episodes, brilliant as usual. The tiny things are great in this, things that will probably turn out to have zero impact in solving the crimes, like I felt sorry for Pernille, just cast aside a bit. Think I would have still given her a lift at least (although I think it's her voice does it for me!), Mette clearly not completely back into the happy families thing yet. That's not all settled yet
Mette is being written into series 3 though, so who knows

Laura was kept alive strangely after 2 attempts to kill her. She is surely the luckiest character in it, so many others from series 1 who I thought would make it didn't!

Just fyi too, the "stars" of the show are on BBC Breakfast tomorrow morning.

Any view on Stefan Lindberg from Season 1?
There was a lot put in to build his character and he had very little to do with the main plot.
Maybe he could feature in Season 3?

Dear god, bbc breakfast give the actors about 5 minutes time and then ask the most stupid questions. Why do you swear in English? They hardly ever, if ever swear in English. Did they even bother to watch the show? Pathetic

Excellent series so far, where the fake fob was found was left open,'the evidence bag it came from had not yet been categorised', thus I am wondering if there is yet another twist yet to come.

Good news that they are making a bridge 3

A bit of fluff but interesting none the less.

Sofia Helin is very lovely. Ah, they're both nice.

Knew Rasmus would come back into the picture once he was transferred. Oliver's confession was pretty early on and the traditional ticking bomb scenario was never really a runner. Why have that when you can have a human one? Seemed like they walked a pretty fine line in interrogating Gertud and Viktoria without being overly dramatic, finding the confession on the PC, then having it on the police HQ computer screen. Similarly, thought Pernille's death was handled pretty well - another emotional gut punch, but the whole back half of the finale episode was. Man...

Honestly, for a second there I thought the pathologist guy was going to say he himself was infected. His lab was very non-flashy, basically a garage. Now, who was the bloke in the dark who killed Gertud for her failure? Once the Martin/Mette relationship imploded that meant Jens would haunt him again. I thought Saga was going to carry the emotional brunt of this one. There's no way she couldn't have told, though. It would have been totally against her character. I did like how talked about Saga's sister and her past (also, great lift chat, again) and her uber analytical description of her break up/situation when she told her boss about Jakob.

How the hell are they going to write Martin out of this one?

Brilliant series and a cliffhanger at the end where we dont know the other person involved that killed Gertrud.

The writer gives some comments in this webchat and also says that it hasnt been decided if the person that killed Gertrud will be revealed in series 3 (which is due in 2016).

No, the creator Hans Rosenfeldt is answering questions on BBC blog at the moment we may or may not find out who the other killer is in series 3 coming up in late 2015. One of the best shows ever on TV.

Comment from the writer Hans Rosenfeldt on whether the killer of Gertrud at the end will be revealed ......

We do not know who shot Gertrude. We thought that we should do something different and didn't want Martin/Saga to catch her. So we let her be a part of something "bigger". What and/r who this "bigger" is we do not know. Maybe we continue that story in series three, most likely not.

That was a pretty incredible two hours of television. Emotional and exciting in equal measure, taking the narrative and the characters in fascinating directions. I was almost yelling "why the **** aren't you wearing protective masks!" at the screen, but the scenes in the bathroom were so harrowing and devastating I'll take that one notable leap of logic. But genuinely superb stuff all in all, one of the most involving and affecting series finales I've ever watched. I actually would not mind in the slightest if there was no series 3, but quite curious where they plan on taking the story from here.

He got his dates mixed up on the blog.
But I'd say it still could be early 2016 if Sweden/Denmark get it 2015.
No, you're right, I got the years all wrong...
    Start shooting 2014
    Airing Sweden/Denmark 2015.

+1 my only issue was while watching it streamed on i-player my net speed varied so much that the last five mins took about 10 to watch...!! ;)

Not Pernille! I had to walk out of the room for a second during that scene, obvious what was going to happen but just heartbreaking to endure. Viktoria so self interested, she had just killed another woman and seemed to show little emotion, true to her horrible character.

Didn't think Mette would stay with Martin after last week.
Martin must surely have known Saga was going to turn him in, difficult to see any other killer than Martin, but he never admitted it, even to Saga. If Martin did, as it looks like, kill Jens, series 3 will mean lots of prison visits for Saga, and Jens ultimately won, which would be disappointing.

What crime did Saga commit to get custody of her sister, did I miss that or was it never revealed? Planting evidence or the like?

I'll miss watching this, shame it will be a couple of years before we get to see the next series.

1.1 million viewers for the weekends episode. 5.1% share.

    I know !!!!
    A 2 year wait is a nightmare !!!
The best tv show ever without doubt, even better than Breaking Bad, Sopranos, The Wire etc.
Saga and Martin have fantastic chemistry on screen.

Very much a human drama series above and beyond a crime one. Whatever about the odd plot glitch, so much hinges on the dynamic and rhythms of the Martin/Saga relationship. A pleasure to watch.

Yes it is tremendous television, not sure though if even this season can surpass the first season of The Killing(Forbrydelsen).

I'm actually half way through that, loving it, Sarah Lund is a great character, just Jens is such a tool, by design obviously, so there is no decent interaction between the 2, compared with the relationship between Saga and Martin which just makes The Bridge more watchable for me.

Wouldn't want to miss either of them though tbh. So much going on with The Killing, mixing the political world with the crime world so expertly. It's sustaining it all very well so far considering there is still 10 episodes to go. Troels seems like such a genuine man, who does everything with good intentions, but probably lots of deep dark stuff bubbling underneath I'm yet to see!

Finished watching this last night. Season 2 IMO is better than the first which was great.

Love the music the, cinematography and the cast. Superb stuff.

My experience in hotels in Copenhagen is that they do, a bit tricky ff someone is passing by as you exit ;)

However, I expect the answer is security in case of fire, push out is easier than open in ??

I was wondering this as well! Thought it might be to do with pushing snow away from a door rather than have it fall in to the house when you open the front door, but that doesn't explain why the inside doors do as well

Spoiler about cast member exiting for the next season.
Kim Bodnia (Martin) has quit the show. Pretty disappointing. I know Saga is the main character, but we learnt so much about her through her interactions with Martin.

Very sad he's leaving. I didn't particularly like where they took him last season, so if it was more of the same I don't blame him. Big hole in the series now. Bordering on being gutted!

It is a god damn shame. The interplay between them elevated the show to bigger things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,382 ✭✭✭✭rainbowtrout

It is a shame. A lot of the show does depend on the interaction between Saga and Martin and they've built up that relationship over the first two series and now it's gone.

I did wonder where they were going to go with his character for the third series, he hardly got off a murder charge.
