Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I always take the little sewing kits and shoe shiners. They are so handy.

I take these and the shower caps. I do actually use the sewing kits and I use the shoe shiners to valet the car - they bring up a great shine on the dashboard!

I find the soaps/shampoos/conditioners etc to be rubbish in most hotels so I don't even use them let alone take them.

It used to be that when a hotel patron called down for ' an extra cushion' it was a call for an escort. or it that an urban myth, I get my myths mythxed up ;)

Drumoland Castle, used to give out beautiful bathroom kits, included Hermes scents. I took them.

People who steal anything from hotels, be it shampoo, towels or whatever, are fcuking sad individuals. Not to mention thieves.
I think you need to distinguish the consumables from the fixtures & fittings in a hotel room. Do you really think a housekeeper is going to to re-package a half used bar of hotel soap for the next occupant?? When you pay for a room, the shampoos & soaps are factored in

So maybe that's why I got a funny look when I rang down for an extra hard pillow!:D

What I'm saying is I'm going to be there, so I'll probably take it. Does anyone do the same.

Did I ask where I can get shampoo? :P

They have been left in the room for you. Use them or take them home.

I'm not referring to half used bottles of shampoo or bars of soap. I mean proper stuff like cushions, towels, pillows, etc. it's a scabby thing to do.

I always take the batteries out of the remote for the tv when leaving hotels, you could always do with a few spare AAA's at home....have taken the odd toilet seat from time to time from hotel.;)

    thats scabby stealing

or if you leave your hotel room around 11ish (that's when they're normally cleaning the rooms) you'll find that there's an abundance of them in their trollies they leave outside the hotel room.
Grab as many as you can and run :D

sure if you're choosing to stay in a hotel then it's all the same
it's not like you have to or anything. Good luck to ya!

A lot of people from Cavan on this thread, oh wait they'd be too stingy to stay in a Hotel.

Last time I stayed in a hotel I took two towels.

But only because it was an emergency. I needed them as stuffing to form the arms and legs of a young boy mannequin for a Halloween costume.

I do myself from time to time... But I'd always ask the manager first

I always find it amusing to read about people swiping bedspreads, pillows and sheets and the like. From a quick google, "Bedspreads and comforters are magnets for food, blood and other human and pet body fluid stains yet, they are rarely washed by housekeeping."

    Mmmmmmm.......noice.......

sure if you're choosing to stay in a hotel then it's all the same it's not like you have to or anything
So do you suggest that we sleep on the airplane or just in the airport building ?? Of course we HAVE to stay in hotels.

I'd say anyone in hospitality that has read this thread has been busy nailing everything down..

I'm not being all high and mighty about this, but I've never stolen anything from a hotel. I just don't see the point. I actually bring my own stuff to wash with because you don't know what the quality of stuff they have will be like.

I might also make the bed before I leave

    WTF... I didn't know that!!!11!!

I'm not talking about it being to the precision that house-keeping would have the bed, I'm talking about throwing the bed more or less back the same way it was, as opposed to a load of bed clothes on the floor. Towels get left over the side of the bath too rather than on the floor. I'm sure its nice for house keeping to find the room in at least a semi-decent state.

I'm sure 'housekeeping' really appreciate your thoughtfulness. So much easier to take away the soiled linen and towels when they are nicely tucked up on the bed and hung over the side of the bath!! I'm sure they would far more appreciate a fiver left on the locker as a tip.

I've taken the shampoos and soaps that I've partially used. My past hotel stays were never longer then 2 nights. I also had to get a toothbrush from the front desk as I had forgotten mine (brought my own toothpaste but forgot my toothbrush at home). I took that with me too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 16,500 ✭✭✭✭DEFTLEFTHAND

    Think I took towels once.

I take nothing and I never use the provided toiletries. You just don't know what they're like and I don't want a face roaring with an allergic reaction from them.

I personally love those little sewing kits....... :/

Wonder what the pilfer rate for the Gideon's Bibles are like.

I always take them and I have a huge collection of them :) My best score though was when flying first class with Swiss and stopping over in Zurich. I had a shower in the FC lounge and they had Bulgari toiletries in a little toilet bag. I used some of the body wash and then had a real debate with myself as to if I could take them all...I finally did :D Figured they wouldn't want the half used bottle back and probably had them already made up in sets anyway.

    I forgot about them. :)

And the shoehorns, never used one in my life but they look so attractive when you're packing to leave an hotel.

Anything like sewing kits, minature toiletries etc you're supposed to take and are factored into the cost of the room.

With that in mind, always grab the wee shoe polishers. They're pretty meh on shoes but excellent for dusting/polishing your car dashboard.

Edit: haha, just realised I posted the same thing in this thread last year!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,076 ✭✭✭Thespoofer

    Yes, all of them.

The way hotels screw the pictures to the wall, seriously??
I always take the toiletries, come in handy when you run out. Do people use shower caps?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 5,575 ✭✭✭AlanS181824

When I was in Sweden a few years back the Hotel had this little basket in the bathroom with all the toiletries in it with a little note saying Gratis or for free.

I remember underneath if was a little hand written note saying, "Please take, we won't getting angry."

So in summary OP, yeah I take those little shampoos!

Very handy if the shower head is fixed high on the wall and you're of petite stature.
Unless you're planning on washing your hair, in that case they're a bad idea. :)

aha yes, forgot those fixed heads. Really don't like them. Prefer the adjustable ones.
