Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

BSkyB announces Free-To-Air.....When?

British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) announced on 09 June 2004 that it planned to introduce a new FTA satellite proposition offering access to almost 200 television and radio channels which would be available without a monthly subscription fee.

We were told that consumers in the United Kingdom would be able to purchase a package of reception equipment (including a Sky digibox, minidish and initial viewing card) direct from BSkyB for a one-off cost of £150.00 (€225) including standard professional installation. Furthermore cards would be available for £20(€30).

Has there been any update on this proposal? Three months have passed and not a word has been heard. Was it a genuine offer or just a publicity stunt?

    Sort of a stunt..

Without this mythical pack you get all the Free To Air, on a Digibox or on a FTA receiver. (A gazillion BBC channels, about 200 TV mostly but not all junk, and about 70 radio channels).

At the moment you can't get a card for the technically free C4, ITV, Five. You have to take a UK sub and cancel it. Sky does not want FTA satellite boxes as the users are unlikely to sub to sky.

A Sky box advertises all the pay channels.

Sky is critized for taking Millions of C4, Five and ITV for encryption which costs them nothing, so are proposing to sell that which is supposed to be "free" and Five, ITV and C4 have already paid for, in the form of a once off payment to get FTV card (3 channels) as well as all the stuff already FTA on ANY satellite receiver, i.e. a £60 Comag or €85 palcom DSL4 etc.

So it is not a new service at all.

I have no idea when or if they will start selling FTV cards this way. Of course anyone in Ireland or Europe will easily get such a system as before.

Actually it only lists channels that have PAID to be on the EPG

with a sky box many FTA channels have to be entered manually through SERVICES , OTHER CHANNELS , same is true of regional variations eg: UTV
    http://www.vowles-home.demon.co.uk/Sat/SkyITV.htm
    Frequency 10906
    - Polarisation V (NOTE Other 2 were H)
    - Symbol Rate 22
    - FEC 5/6
