Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Replacing Maryland Bridge with implant

    Hi
    Will be looking for a dentist soon to do some work on my teeth. I want to consider my options so I know what to ask though so advice would be welcome!

    I have had a Maryland Bridge replacing my right central incisor for almost 20 years. It is anchored to the other front tooth and my right lateral incisor (taking tooth names from google so I hope they are correct!) It fell out once about 10 years ago. I would like to replace it because i am hoping to have my teeth whitened and not only is the false tooth quite dark, but the 'wings' have made my other front tooth a bit blue and it seems to be getting darker.

    I am thinking of replacing bridge with at least 2 implants for the two front teeth. Also considering if it would be a good idea to replace the lateral incisor with an implant? And maybe even the left one too- it is a poor shape and is smaller than my other teeth. Maybe it could be built up and capped though?

    Would all of this mean I would be missing my 4 upper front teeth for up to 6 months? Would I be able to use a temporary denture that has a plastic but that sticks to the palette? Are there easier ways to replace a bridge and build up a small tooth? My teeth are quite straight and would be so much nicer if they were whiter and the metal bridge didn't shine through,

    Unrelated to the rest of my post I though I would ask about something else that I am wondering about. I was last at the dentist in January for wisdom tooth removal. The rest of my teeth were fine. Since last week I get a bad smell from one of my bottom middle teeth. I have upped the flossing and bought Corsydol. I am hoping to get to the dentist in October. Is this smell always the sign of gum disease or an infection or could I just need to floss more and pay more attention when brushing my bottom teeth? If it is generally an infection I will try to get to the dentist sooner.

    You would be provided with some sort of temporary at each stage, nobody is expected to go around without teeth at any point.

    With this sort of treatment at the front of the mouth there can be fine aesthetic and gum components that need to be carefully controlled. You need a full workup, diagnostic x-rays and consultation. Possible several to get some various opinions. I would get the consultations ASAP as it may be some time before the treatment can be scheduled and you need to plan for time off etc. These things take a while.

    Thanks. Went to see my regular dentist during the week to check on one of my bottom teeth. He has a list of recommendations for me as he doesn't deal in implants. Thanks again.
