Just watched the first 4 seasons over the last couple of weeks, fantastic show! Really underrated.

When is season 5 due to start?

Can't wait for this. I love how all the teasers released so far are all linking back to season one. It's gonna be good.

    Anyone watch it yet?
What a great premiere. Patty vs Ellen, it's on!!
This season is absolutely gonna blow it out of the water. There's no other dynamic on tv quite like that between Parsons & Hewes. Can't wait to see how it all ends, and I'm hoping the last shot of the "3 months later" is just a ruse, because it can't end like that. It can't.

So happy to have this back! First episode aired last night :)

    Well that was.....unexpected.

With the far away shot from atop the building they could pull a switcheroo and claim it was the daughter because they looked similar. But then they showed a close up. So I dunno.

My money is still on it being the daughter of the blonde banker. Somehow they will pull that off.

My favourite underrated show returns! I love the sense of closure this season will bring; throughout each different case, the dynamic between Patty and Ellen is definitely one of the most compelling and intriguing of the past 6 or 7 years. Doubtless, a million red herrings between now and the final shot, but I'll be loving every minute.

So true, anytime Patty and Ellen are on-screen together I am riveted. It was a good solid opening and didn't try and do too much which the show has been guilty of in the past. Bring on next week!

Good opening and the final shot... mis-direction?

It certainly though promises what the show has always been building up to: Patty vs Ellen. The case fits them both perfectly and it'll be interesting to see how the dynamic plays out.

Good 2nd episode, Glenn Close is great as usual and will be great to see her and Ellen on opposite sides of the same case. Streets ahead of season 4 so far.

A friend spotted this in Ellen's bag as it lay beside her motionless body

We're speculating on whether or not it's a three month ultrasound pic. Thoughts?

I enjoyed Season 4 but Season 5 seems to be better set for something much stronger. Patty 1 : Ellen 0. Patty's play with the judge was perfect and I'm looking to see how dirty Ellen will get her hands to fight back.

Who was that peering over the ledge at the end? Seemed kind of blond hair so I'm thinking McClaren or - more likely - Michael.

Strong episode again and we started to get what we really wanted: great Patty vs Ellen scenes. The coffee shop was well done but the deposition was great. Watching her face as Ellen forced Rachel's hand on the phone call - great acting by Glenn Close.
Very happy so far and it's good that we've got some ambiguity on McClaren. I wonder if they'll go right after the WikiLeaks original with these allegations.

I guess that ties it up one all.

They'll get some oranges and powerade in them and get them out for the second half. :p

Back to Patty 2 : Ellen 1. Loving their scenes together - the mind games are fantastic next only to their chemistry.

Good stuff again, although I always wince at scenes of hacking on TV. To be fair though this was far better than most and fitted in perfectly with the storyline.

Oh and how freaky was that final scene. Note to self: Never sit in Patty's chair!

Patty 2: Ellen 2 :D Loved the expression on Patty's face when Ellen brought in Blackbird.

Some decent development on McClaren - he always seemed weird to me and now they've explained it a bit better. Bit weird seeing "Nurse Jackie"'s Kevin in such a mean stepdad role but not quite as much as hearing Spy Daddy Bristow cursing down the phone to Naomi later on.

This has the makings of being one of the strong seasons of the show. Why aren't people watching this?!

I've watched season 1 & 2 since last Friday. Starting season 3 at the weekend. I'm getting there! :)

Absolutely brilliant show - kicking myself for not picking it up sooner (but kind of glad I can gorge myself on 49 continuous episodes before season 5)

Yeh that hacking was horrendous. Topped off with the fact that your man isn't even typing....he was just mashing the keyboard. Seriously, do what he did and you end up with asgfsdlfjsdklfghkjhgsdf. All letters from the middle line of the keyboard. :p

Well for those keeping score.....I guess they both won that one! :p

Kind of underhanded though. Where was Ellens morals there, eh? Let them settle and get on with their lives.

Yep. I like how Ellen has dragged herself down to Patty's level. Season 1 Ellen would never have pulled this move.
Good to see they're going back to the events of the first season and bringing closure in some form or another to David's murder.

    Promo for the penultimate episode:

I don't want Ellen to die (although for that haircut alone she probably deserves to :pac: ).
Damages has specialised in fake-outs with its flash-forwards so maybe she's not. My guess is that she probably just tripped carrying a tin of red paint and took a moment to look at the clouds. :D

Series finale will run for 70 minutes and here's a quote from a critic who just watched the screener -
"@televisionary: Very interesting series finale of #Damages. Resolution, nail-biting tension, multiple twists and turns, and an amazing final shot."
    I can't wait.

Sweet baby Jesus only one episode left and I can't find the promo anywhere.

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 17,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

Excellent penultimate episode. I thought the explanation for the leak fitted in perfectly with what we've learnt and was handled well.

One final episode to tie in all the hints we've seen. Are we being mis-directed (is her father the culprit?). What will happen? And please can we have some more cracking scenes between Patty and Ellen - they've been the highlight of the season.

Oh and no promos here! I want to have no idea what's going to happen next week.

Hope it's available to watch as soon as possible. Unlike the last two weeks when it was Saturday before they were released.
Can't even begin to tell you how much I'm looking forward to it, I've rewatched the entire series in two weeks in celebration of the finale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

I'm up to episode 5 of season 5, having watched the whole thing from the very start (for the first time) in the last 4 weeks. It's such a great show.

I should be synced up by the weekend. :o

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭DeWitt

Absolutely fantastic finale, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the ending. Though I can understand if some people have quibbles with it.
First things first if Glenn Close doesn't win an Emmy for her performance in this episode then the world is bat**** crazy.
I didn't see Michael's death coming at all. Heartbreaking, and then Ellen pulling a total Patty by taking Rutger out? My mind was completely blown. Oh, and I totally loved the David cameo. It's little things like that that warm my heart.

I was hoping that Patty would have ended up at the bottom of the East River.

Not quite what I expected but that interview did clear some things up.
No court room case. I was initially WTF? I thought this was pay off. But when Patty talked to Ellen on the pier and explained that she just wanted to see how far Ellen would go - it was all worth it. That was the pay off. Beautiful.

Ellen collapsing due to the pregnancy makes a lot of sense (and explains why there was no pool of blood which would have happened if she'd fallen from the roof). Having Rutger knee deep in it all, including Nicole Wallace's murder also makes a lot of sense. I initially thought it was Patty but Rutger is more satisfying.

And then the family angle. Firstly, Glenn Close deserves all the TV acting awards for that scene with her father. Anything else would just be ridiculous. It showed her, for once, almost vulnerable but explained so much about her. And then to cut her father off only to have her son die.
It led to the final shot of Patty just alone with her thoughts - nobody to talk to or confide in. It was the right final shot.

The more I think about it, the more I'm happy with the final episode. Very satisfying end to a strong season for a strong show. It'll be a long time before any other show gives us such a strong dynamic as Patty and Ellen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,263 ✭✭✭DeWitt

Credit where credits due. The writers and Glenn Close really delivered when it came to Patty Hewes. To even feel an ounce of sympathy towards a character as dispicable as Patty is a triumph.
Only thing is what with award season being so far away and the limited audience numbers Damages telecasted to on Direct Tv it's looking likely that Close will be overlooked.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

    And breathe.....

Anyone else hold their breath during that last scene? Expecting some sort of horrible end to Patty Hewes? Just finished the last episode, and my heart is still pounding.

Emmy nod at the very least. There has to be.

I wondered was that Prada Patty was wearing in the final scene? :P She looks Botoxed to the hilt - great make up I guess!

The scene with her father was extraordinary.

Shame Ray Fisk or Tom Shayes couldn't come back into one of the dreams, but a very satisfying end to the show. I'll miss it.

You'd hope but then too often, they just seem to copy-and-paste last year's nominations.
