    Exactly
I am curious about what was used on the front grill as those honeycomb grills are a pain.:o

  • Registered Users Posts: 198 ✭✭DMW22

Sorry guys, I used auto glym bumper and trim on the grill and auto glym metal polish on the exhaust with some steel wool like curran advised. My fingers were fairly sore after that grill :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,854 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

Great work on the grill but that will wear off in time to come. To get a permanent finish, I would use either spray lacquer as a cheap option or Gtechniq C4 Permanent Trim Restorer as a relatively dear option.

C4 is very good albeit expensive. I have used it on faded trim on some cars that i have done and it's still going strong. A little goes a long way too. ..

A quick job I did for a friend this evening on his mk2 Jetta. This was pink with faded bumpers at 6 oclock this evening. All done by hand no DA or rotary unfortunately so we did what we could. I have more pics but here is some for now. As always we forgot to taken before pics . And yes they are genuine RM's fake replicas can Fcuk off.

Heads up for anyone thinking of using it. Clear the be-jebus out of the plastic work before applying the C4. Good mix of APC and give it a deep clean.

I made a half assed clean on my GFs Mini (plastics were in a horrible state) and applied C4. Next day I wasnt impressed at all. Gave them a through clean after that and applied a 2nd time. About 15 months on now they're still a lovely black. The Mini (twice) and an old Corolla used about 2/3s the bottle.

You're supposed to clean the surface thoroughly with IPA or alcohol wipes in order to remove any silicone or grease. The more of this prep you do the better chance the C4 has of doing its job.

Decided to do a bit of Touch up's on the front of the E60 over the past few days.
    Got the
    IPA - paint - Lacquer - 2500/300 water paper.

Touched up as many spost as could be seen easily .
    Allowed them to dry.

Wet sanded the touched up areas to show there thouch ups were.
Dropped lacquer in to hollow spots.
Allowed to dry and sanded them down with a spot sander.
Decided to sane most of the bonnet as there were a few light scratches etc. in the lacquer.
Pic here shows half way through sanding with 2500
3000 followed to smooth it up a bit.

    IMG_20140924_115620.jpg

Then used the EP801 rotary with combination of polishes and pads.

End result is only polishing with no lsp and straight from phone.

Not bad if I say so myself :)

    Nice work Eugene!.

I just love the EP it's smooth and light and with a quality backing plate it's even better, I use it with a 6' mostly now.

Very very nice work sir! :)

Great to see people take on work like this....I always say; despite what some people would lead you to believe, detailing isnt rocket science!! With the right products and the correct advice; anyone with a bit of patience will get amazing results!!

Obviously Vectra with a bit of experience, is more confident (than most) with a polisher and sand paper, but that all comes with pratice!
Well done Eugene! ;) Bet Nick is pleased! :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,584 ✭✭✭✭vectra

Nick has a Big grin from Ear to Ear so he has.

There are a couple of little spots that are high on the bonnet needs rubbing down but I need to let the lacquer harden a bit more.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

    And as Curran said.
Nice and slow and watch what you are doing.

Started on my car 2 weeks ago by taking the alloys off and cleaning and sealing them. I did the little time consuming jobs like the honeycomb grill and exhaust tip so I could spend all my time on the paint.

I started yesterday morning and gave it a full going over with snow foam, de-tar, de-iron, clay bar and then snow foam again. I dried it off and brought it into the shed where I could relax and take my time regardless of what the weather was doing.

Hand polished it with CG Pro polish 3n and then sealed it with CG Jetseal and to just give it a little bit extra shine finished it with OA Perfection. All that was left to do was the trim and glass but I found every bit of trim I did I spent more time standing back admiring the shine and the work that I had done. I finally got it done and took some pics in the overcast weather so hopefully will get better ones when there is more light.

I was so happy with it I brought it for a drive to see the performance gains with all the weight saving from less fall out and better aerodynamics with the air better able to glide over the paint :D Now the countdown is on for the first bird crap to appear :(

    Products used:

    OA Cotton Candy
    CG Glossworkz
    OA Tar Cleanse
    OA Iron Cleanse
    OA Wheel Cleanse
    Bilt Hamber Clay
    CG Pro Polish 3n
    CG Jetseal
    OA Perfection
    OA Glitz
    AG Bumper & Trim
    AG Metal Polish
    CG Glassworkz

More progress being made on the E60

Almost there now, just a few spots to enhance some more.

    Wheels are ordered.
Tyres to be ordered after that
    and Eibach springs.

    Should look finished then

So, a couple of weeks ago, I finally managed to get rid of the swirl marks using Menzerna FG400 & SF4500 and then topped off with Menzerna Powerlock

Today i decided to give it a mini detail

Washed with Meguiars NXT, dried and a coat of OAC Perfection.
Wheels Deironized and topped with AG alloy seal.
Tyres dressed with Meguiars Endurance gel
Roof trim and door pillars given C4 as it was looking a bit tatty.
Some 303 Protectant on the interior.
    Wiper blades cleaned with IPA
Glass cleaned with AG Fast Glass
Exhaust polished with AG metal polish and a squirt of AG Autofresh inside.
(Anyone know of mint air freshener spray?)

Almost on cue, it started raining just after i had finished. Beading shot in the Beadophile thread ;)

    Thanks.

To be honest I don't really know what are going on it as he won't say.
All I know is they are the first set in the country.

    19"
8.5" up front and 10" on the rear
They will be wearing 245/35/19 fronts and 275/30/19 on the rear.

I think it may be getting lowered around 15/20 mm as well

*Brush with a stiff upholstery brush
    *Extract with Numatic CT 370
(***repeated twice for rear and passenger seats and three time for drivers seat with some random stain removal)

The camper has its own separate heater so no need to let it running with the heaters on.

The owner of this car was told by a mechanic that there is no fix for the oxidation covering the lenses, with a set of new units costing near enough four hundred euros she done well to do some research before going any further.

Can I get help here please.

Such a gombeen when it comes to detailing, and the Mondeo needs a wax. What do I do, wash it dry it and then apply the turtle wax? Will that be sufficient, or will it need more products?

    Thanks :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,377 ✭✭✭Curran

You could do that, but really all youve done is wash it :) Hardly detailing! :P

If you want to get it looking extremely well, you should consider a few more steps; there are quite a few but they are worth doing. Also, the Turtle Wax...is it their paste wax or some other product? There would also be better products available that would be far more durable.

Essentially if you just wash, dry and wax the car, you have washed away the non-bonded contamination, and are waxing over the bonded contamination (which regular washing will not remove). Various methods; de-tar, de-iron/fallout remover and claying, removed the bonded contamination, to give much cleaner paintwork, resulting in, better shine and better bonding of the protection you apply, either wax or sealant, which ultimately gives better durability too!

    Hope this helps! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

Right, so de tar, clay and then the wax. Perfect, thanks :)

Cleaned the GF's car this weekend along with her nans and my pug, was a busy Sunday!!

Her car got the full works:
    SnowFoam
    Rinse
    De-iron
    Rinse
    De-Tar
    2 BM Wash
    Clay
    Wash
Coat of AutoGlym HD wax - was going to use collinite, but it sad to be used on a lukewarm surface and it was a bit cold so I skipped it..

Her Nan's car was manky- been sitting up quite a bit, lots of green bits and tree crap on it
2 snow foams, de-iron and de tar, 2 BM and it was looking a lot better, did discover a few rust patches so it may be more work on the way there :(

Pug got a SnowFoam and quick 2 BM, Dave can take care of the rest later this week :p

No Pics as phone was dead ( and I was lazy) :(

So, I had this lovely RX8 in over the weekend for a bit of work. It got a wash, wheel decontamination, detar, clay, wash, coat of perfection and the glass polished inside. As with all Mazdas, the wheels need a refurb despite looking fine in the pics. In person they're fairly scratched, chipped and rough.

The pictures are showing tree sap and lots of crap all over the car. After a wash, the paint was incredibly rough and it took quite some time to clay.

It's coming back at some stage for an interior and engine detail but for now here's a few pics:

    use toothpaste if not bad.

If bad headlight restoration kits can be bought and all equipment needed included in kit. Go to any motor factors be around €20

I found running clear water run through it useless.
I now blast pure APC through it for a minute or so, then finish with clear water.
Working fine this time much longer than ever before.

Did you try flushing some kettle descaler through it?

There's also the law of diminishing returns...too much snowfoam solution doesnt result in thicker, but rather a shorter time before getting a clogged gauze.

Is there a new detailing website where I can purchase this APC from??

I had a Peugeot 106 Rallye in at the weekend for paint enhancement. Savage little car that handles like a go kart!

First off, Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel:

    10B7BB926A5648F7B237D0AA65EA8858-0000372590-0003682971-00800L-20A2BB39B22847F0AE9A2CFF608230C6.jpg

Followed by a wash, detar and clay:

This was an enhancement rather than a correction but there was quite a bit of swirling damage:

    097034AEF50D4651A1F6722B4EF8A16B-0000372590-0003682967-00800L-F9FAD413D8B5426B97F3430AE062D786.jpg

Mainly this kind of thing is what I had to sort on the front driver's wing and front bumper:

    3DA68B3454B24104BF966FC9E6A0DAA6-0000372590-0003682972-00500L-1686CDE50C064688A903834B98BAD066.jpg

    50/50

    Fully done:

    68E1B1BA137C4ED0843BAA6A0C1271D2-0000372590-0003682974-00800L-BA7E348254954432961F6587E9CC4FE0.jpg

The whole car got an enhancement followed by a wash and 2 IPA wipedowns to remove any trace of polish and give the LSP the best bonding surface possible

All finished and with a coat of Collinite 845:

    018D78AA0513456BA191A5631DA07FE5-0000372590-0003682943-00800L-65A11C0D00224904B5FAF4952047D96E.jpg

    601878CF5DCC44C8B41E699ED79B92B7-0000372590-0003682970-00800L-17623DA3913443479AC033F07C0EED1B.jpg

Bearing in mind that this wasn't a correction, it's impossible to do an enhancement without some level of correction. The paint on this car wasn't too badly damaged so it really is as shiny as it looks!

Think I'll give up snow foaming, the damned thing stopped working again and not getting any decent foam - just milky stuff. And yes I did let clean water run through the system each time after using it. :( Was fun while it lasted

I find my spray bottle gets clogged sometimes. I blow air through the bottom of the suction hose, with an air compressor (cheapo aldi/lidl one)
That does the trick every time :)

So the little pug above is mine, must say that I was really impressed by the work done and delighted with how it turned out, espically the faded panels.

Had a bitta rain last night so here are a few obligatory beading shots.
