Definitely the best comedy anyways.. surpassing both 'The Middle' (which is becoming a bit formulaic) and 'Community' (which just thinks it's funnier than it actually is).

I still find "The Middle" to be very good as well - I guess the core mechanic of having everything narrated from the mom's perspective is more formulaic than "Modern Family", where the focus seems to shift quite a bit between all three families (or all of them interacting in one main story) - still enjoyable though and for me at least, probably on par with "Modern Family" so far.

Agree about "Community" though - it's not terrible (especially when you look at some of the other abominations this season has given us) but it's far from the level of quality that both "Modern Family" and "The Middle" have consistently delivered so far.
I nearly pissed myself and then the 6 of them trying to explain how they were related to each other was great.

And after all that, the principal's classic reply: "ok, I'm going to leave you all sort this out because I think you're all related... somehow" :D.

I've watched the next 2 online and the standard does keep up imo,if anything it's getting funnier. Definitely my new favourite current tv show.

I'm tempted to watch ahead online but i'm trying to watch it on a weekly basis and save it.....is this sad?

just watch it online, cause it's great... US are only two weeks ahead anyway, so just watch it online on a weekly basis...

I've stopped watching, saw the first two...it's not a bad show, just not my taste.

For this show, I actually think that's a compliment :D

Loved the last episode. The race between the married couple was hilarious. It's also so true. Men make everything into a competition, whereas women just don't care. The OH was giving me smirked side glances throughout.

It's my favourite new comedy at the moment, not really liking The middle and I've already dumped Glee and Community.

I do like The Middle....for Sue, you dumped Glee??????????????

Latest episode was great as well... love this show... As I said before all the characters are comic gold, but Manny and Phil really do stand out from the rest as just hilarious, but I love all the characters.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Phil's "you've got to listen with your mind" look was priceless :).

Plenty of laughs all around - I liked when Mitchell called his sister about the head bump and she told him that her son had been bumped plenty of times and was fine to which his reaction was that they needed to go to the hospital immediately :D.

BTW, was the episode aired out of order? They specifically mentioned this was the first day back at school but the fight between Manny and Luke happened at school in the last episode?

The production numbers on Epguides.com would certainly suggest they're being aired completely out-of-order:
    1- 2 1ARG02 30 Sep 09 The Bicycle Thief
    1- 3 1ARG04 7 Oct 09 Come Fly with Me
    1- 4 1ARG05 14 Oct 09 The Incident
    1- 5 1ARG03 21 Oct 09 Coal Digger
    1- 6 1ARG01 28 Oct 09 Run For Your Wife

Grrr, hate it when the networks do that... Ok, it's not some heavily serialized drama where the out of order airings really screw everything up, but still, there are little annoying things like the references to the school between these last two episodes...

Yea I was wondering about that myself
Was still a good episode thou!

I love love love this show! It is hilarious. The pilot was definitly the funniest one so far for me. The bit with the two gay guys on the plane "Look at that baby with those cream puffs" was classic. Manny and Phil are hilarious characters, Phil is such a Michael Scott character, I find i'm watching him through my fingers.

Now that The Office has jumped the shark, Modern Family is fast becoming my favourite thing on TV.

Latest episode was one of the best yet I think.

    The scene with
Mitchell calling to remotely unlock the car, and Cam running in the background with the trash can, only to fall and scream "I'M GONNA SMASH IT, I'M GONNA SMASH THE WINDOW!". Then the person on the other end of the line saying: "Tell your wife to stop screaming!"
    :D

Was in bits during that entire scene!

Watched the pilot. I didn't think it was great to be honest. I'll watch it if its on but wouldn't go out of my way to watch it again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,906 ✭✭✭J-blk

Give it a couple of episodes - I also wasn't too impressed with the pilot (though I think most people were) but it just gets better and better. Three episodes in, I was completely hooked - easily one of the best new comedies this season.

I absolutely love this show too - I didn't find the pilot quite as strong as others here have but it has improved so much week on week and now delivers regardless of which of the three families it may focus on in any given episode. For me, this and "The Middle" are easily the two best new comedies to come out this season.

Claire surprises Phil with a private performance by one of their favorite musicians, Izzy LaFontaine (guest star Edward Norton). Meanwhile, Mitchell and Cameron have a night on the town with their old friend, Sal (guest star Elizabeth Banks).

Far and away the funniest show on television since Arrested Development. Last weeks episode was hilarious, and probably my favourite line from a sitcom ever.

"I dont know why Im so afraid of clowns....my mother says it's because when I was a kid I found a dead clown in the woods, but who knows.."

    Had me in stitches.

Modern Family was back in the states last night... just in case anyone wasn't aware it was back already...
    The new episode was fantastic...

Great episode. Phil is a legend. Liked how Jay got sucked in by Manny's father. Phil's card tricks and jokes :)

Excellent stuff, I saw your post about "The Middle" first - I love it when good shows get picked up early on, rather than having to wait until the summer to hear if they will be back...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

    "Caesar Salazar"... Classic...

Another brilliant episode - even with Manny being missing from the episode, it was still great...
Anyone who doesn't find this show funny deserves to be shot...

How Glee managed to beat this in the Golden Globes I don't know. It's definitely the best new show for me that's come out this season.

I agree, i'm only watching glee on tv3 so i cant comment on it so far while i'm enjoying it MF is better in everyway except the music in glee is very catchy. Cam is right up there in my fav comedy characters.

In fairness,Jay,Cam & Phil make the show. 3 of the best performances i've seen in a long time on tv. I only tuned in when it began because Ed O'Neill was in it but the 3 guys make it imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,030 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Ah, the whole cast is superb!

Even the kids like Manny and Luke are more talented comedically than most adult stars of a generic sitcom.

Actually manny comes out with some great lines. The best laugh i got so far was when the young one's (Haley?) boyfriend plays her the song he wrote for her infront of the family. I had a pain from laughing
