Hi. Ive tried AAs route planner which hopelessly needs updating to incorporate the Limerick Dual Carriageway.

What im looking for is directions coming from Athlone to Tralee. I can get as far as that new Dual Carriageway but after that im in unfamiliar territory.

Anyone whos done the route before, can they throw in some directions

    Thanks in advance

I have been doing this route for 9 long years at the weekends :-(

Take the Right turn for ferbane after the krazy kilmartins roadworks,
    Go through Doon,ballinahown,Ferbane,
Keep going straight through the two the off centred instersections,
You have to take a left at a T junction just before Borrisokane.
(NB!! on your way back dont forget to take the right after leaving Borrisokane)

Through Borrisokane, onto Nenagh, take the bypass in Nenagh, (Second exit when you hit first roundabout)
Go Straight through the two roundabouts.

Take second exit at roundabout in front of nissan garage.
At next roundabout, take first left (for limerick) onto flyover then join the main Dublin Limerick road. Straight on.

You come into Limerick city take the second exit for the ring road (at roundabout at) finnegans pub
Takes about 1 and half hours.

Take the first left at the next roundabout (Signposted,Tralee Killarney)

Then its dead straight all the way as far as castleisland , you go through Adare, Newcastlewest, templeglantine, Abbeyfeale(watch out for cops, they can be anywhere along roads in Limerick/Kerry)

When you come into Castleisland, take the right at the traffic lights.
When your on the "main Street" Keep to the middle of the road.
When you come to stop sign, you just drive around the back the big building at the end of the street, then take the left for Tralee.

Straight all the way to Tralee, go straight through rounabout underneath railway bridge.

Straight though roundabout at Renault garage, Straight though roundabout after Mikey Dees (keep to middle of road)
    Straight though roundabout at hospital.

When you come to next roundabout, straight through.

Next AND last!!! roundabout, at the Dunnes/Esso garage take the Second exit, this will bring you along John Joe Sheehy road.
You will drive by bus/train station, keep in middle of road, you want to be in the lane that will be taking a right (there is a filter light at the traffic lights.
Take the right, Oakpark begins after the Shell garage about half a mile up from lights.
    EASY !!

That google map is good, except it goes well off county after Rathkeale, no need to do that the roads are crap.
Stay on the main roads, you might get bit more traffic but its a lot easier to drive and harder to get lost

billbond4 has it to a T. dont go via listowel, I'd imagine those back roads are rubbish. Keep an eye out for cops, especially on the long 60 zone approaching Castelisland, a notorious spot
