Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm going to sit out the sea trout swap. Don't know anything about sea trout flies - and don't have any of the materials to tie them. Look forward to seeing the results though

Only 3 for this one? Gotta be more sea trout fishermen than that - come on lads!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 437 ✭✭yank_in_eire

Ok, looks like just the 3 of us then. Happy tying all - pm me for my address when you're ready to post your flies.

Just a suggestion. With the number down do ye want to tie two of each pattern per swapper instead? i.e. I'll tie two medicines for you and you tie two Peter Ross for me? Always handy to have two of a pattern. What ye think?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 437 ✭✭yank_in_eire

I was thinking of doing 2 different patterns each or we could do 2 of the same each - what do you think?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 3,455 Mod ✭✭✭✭coolwings

Would you guys like another to join?
Something like a claret bumble, teal red and silver?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 437 ✭✭yank_in_eire

    One more suits me fine.
Let's say we either tie 2 of each fly or 1 each of 2 different patterns for each person, so that gives us:

yank_in_eire: Peter Ross and Black Pennell
Seafields: Medicine and Silver doctor (trout)
thekevin4540: Bloody Butcher and Dunkeld variant
Coolwings: Claret bumble and Teal red and silver

If any of you lads want to add different patterns let me know - otherwise it's 6 flies and a stamped envelope from each of you by the end of April and I'll aim to get them in the post back to you the first week of May.
    Happy tying!

Ok, pencil me in for the medicine and a silver doctor (trout version) so. That should make a nice little collection for us at the end of the swap.

I should warn ye that the medicines that i tie are so deadly that you should turn your back on the river before tying to your leader or else the seatrout might jump out of the river and grab it straight out of your hands :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭okedoke

Looking forward to seeing these flies

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 437 ✭✭yank_in_eire

Coolwings was kind enough to drop his flies in today so I will have the photos uploaded later this evening and the flies will be going out in the post tomorrow morning, which brings us to the question.......

What will we tie for the next one??:D:D

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 3,455 Mod ✭✭✭✭coolwings

Well given the time of year, how about a sedge, a mayfly and/or a sedge pupa, and/or a pinhead fry.

Or dry flies like midges, pale wateries and caenis for the river?

We can get round to field mice later heh heh. :D

I like the idea of Mayflies but by the time we wrap up the swap there would be few around.
Sedges on the other hand are a great all-season fly - but I'm open to any suggestions. Anybody want to host?

    I'd go with sedges

    I'm happy with sedges too.

How about any 2 of your choice from cased caddis, pupa or dry adult?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭okedoke

Sounds good to me - I'll do two adult dries

    1. CDC & Elk - easily my most productive dry
    2. Loop Wing Sedge

    Steve

    OK I will do:
A dry (not strictly a sedge but similar), an Alder,
    and
the hatching pupa, a Crystal P-Quad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,551 ✭✭✭SeaFields

I haven't tied dries/sedges before apart from small muddlers.

Put me down for a small muddler and another fly TBC

i got my fly from the sea trout fly swap to day thay are some nice flys the sea trout are running the river i fish now so i will try them this week or next week when the water drops off

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 437 ✭✭yank_in_eire

Just a suggestion here lads following on from an idea Coolwings gave me - say we have 6 in a swap - then each really only needs to tie 5 flies because you generally don't tie one for yourself. Why don't we all tie that 1 extra for the swap host to keep as a little thank-you for organising and posting out the flies?
    What do you think guys?

Fine by me. It would be a nice gesture. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 354 ✭✭premiercad

    Good idea

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 3,455 Mod ✭✭✭✭coolwings

I'm for it too since I suggested it.
It makes the admin for the host a little less work, as he receives a few flies for his efforts. Hopefully this will mean everybody wants a crack at hosting one or two swaps.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭okedoke

Just saw this now (too busy fishing!) - cheers lads - will be an incentive for people to start swaps I guess
