Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Do points from a foreign license go onto your new learner permit?

Last summer, an Irish citizen living overseas was back here on holiday. They got a speeding ticket while driving a family members car. They did not have a valid Irish drivers license at the time of the ticket. They had an old provisional license that expired 2 years before this all happened. (They never got it renewed, as they were living over seas when it expired.) So they paid the fine and gave their foreign license details as the driver for the ticket, as that is what they were driving on at the time.

They are now back in Ireland full time. They want to apply for another learner permit, so that they can sit their test and get their full Irish license. What will happen the two points that were presumably put on the foreign one? Will they be put onto their new leaner permit? Or will they go onto the full license when they get that? How does that all work, as while the name of the person is the same, the address is different. So how do they know if the points are being given to the correct person?

Points gained in the UK will be transferred 2015. But assuming 'over seas' is somewhere further, there is unlikely to be any communication between the two countries.

Really? I believe its a ghost licence if a foreigner who gets points here and the points activate when you swap licences. Citizensinformation says they are still looking into it just with Northern Ireland. Points don't transfer either way, bans do though.

My bad. Transfer of points between Ireland and UK still has not happened yet. Legislation in place, technical facility, agreement all in place for a few years but it won't actually begin until 2015.

The country in question is not the UK, its not even in Europe.

There will be no transfer of points. No worries.
