Have you been canvassed for the referendum?

Has anyone been canvassed for the forthcoming referendum? There is only 9 days to go. All the local politicians and their armies of volunteers seem to be very quiet.
I'm all ready for someone to call to my house but no luck so far. Maybe I've been blacklisted?
Very disappointed I am.

There were,or at least their minnons were. 6-7 cars parked at head of estate one evening last week, and all they were doing was stuffing info into letter boxes, no one knocking on a door, I wonder why? It was like a blitz. Half hour and they were gone.

A Labour crew called to our estate yesterday, and I answered the door to one of them. It hadn't occurred to me that they might only be leafleting.

Someone said on the radio today (post last night's Frontline debate) that elections are fought on the doorstep, whereas referendums are fought on the airwaves.

Maybe the standard procedure is to drop leaflets rather than to ring doorbells and engage directly with the citizenry.

The "YES" crowd were in Oranmore yesterday evening. Rang the doorbell but I was in the shower at the time so they just stuffed the leaflet in the letterbox.

Canvassing around our area is normally a flyer in the door "sorry we missed you" even though we're in the house. Still though those flyer's can come in handy to start the fire with

Apart from the commissions book we've not seen a single flyer or had a single caller.

that was probably labour/fg/ff - they are scared to talk to people.

And what of the 'no' side, they are talking to everyone are they?

Live in town, the only leaflets/booklets we got are the Referendum Commisission ones, no yes or no propaganda.

We got a knock from the no crowd as we have a 'no junk mail' sticker. They asked if they could leave the flyer. Impressed by the courtesy tbh. Was headed out so couldn't discuss with them anyway.

A couple of very nice 'No' campaginers, I think they said they were People Before Profit Alliance, called to my door last Thursday or Friday evening. Had leaflets and willing to engage.

I also think I saw Billy Cameron and a few of his entourage (Labour yes canvassers) doing the rounds of his Shantalla neighbourhood this week.

Still haven't been visited by the Profit Before People (FF and FG) alliance campaigners

Whether they have an opinion on it or not, there's bugger all in it for politicians banging on doors over a referendum. It won't keep them on their Dail gravy train so unsurprisingly they couldn't give a monkeys.

Had Catherine Connolly call to my door about two weeks ago. Handed me a NO leaflet but left pretty promptly when I told her that I couldn't vote as I'm not Irish

Not that I don't think she's completely useless, but what did you expect her to do exactly? Shoot the breeze for the afternoon at your porch?

After reading this thread earlier. I was going to post no. But finally someone from the socialist party turned up. So the answer is yes. We had a friendly chat even though I'm no socialist.

But if any of the yes people turn up it will be less friendly. It's one thing to be lied to on posters and on television. But it's quite another to be lied to on my own doorstep.

Nobody called to the house but my mother was in town yesterday. The No camp had a table set near/outside Taffes. She said that they seemed put out if you didn't accept their leaflets. (i'd encourage eveyone to ignore the leaflets from both sides and stick to the commission information, treaty & constitutional amendment)

The "no" side were around with leaflets one evening. Much like another poster, we've a no junkmail sign and the guy asked if I'd like a leaflet. He was a gentleman.

Also saw a crowd had a stand on Shop Street last Friday for the NO vote.

Heard nothing from the YES side. All I needed really was the referendum commission booklet and my minds made up but good to see at least one side actively engaging people.

ah sure it's not the labour party anymore is it - they should re-name themselves - the yellow party (along the lines of the green party, as that's where these will end up too):D

In the old days a delegation from the PDs arrived at my house. Their leading lady looked at me before I had even said hello and says 'you're not Irish are you?' and they all turned on their heels and left (had my hippie hat on).
Met them later when I was walking the dog and said 'howaya now. Catherine is up the road. Tell her I said hello if ye bang into her'. They went into a huddle to discuss their boo boo.
Back on topic nobody has come near my door yet but a few NO people have chatted to me on the street. Also I nearly took my eye out on a NO poster that had either slipped down the pole or was erected too low in the first place.
