Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Eircom Line Issue

Hi all, I'm having an issue with my broadband and hoping for some insight. I live in a rural area and have fixed line broadband with Eircom. I am getting 5Mb speed on a line that is capable or 7Mb. The eircom engineer had his device hooked up at the box on the wall of the house and showed me the data.

On his device my line was showing up a lot of errors coming through and they initially thought it may have something to do with electric fences etc but they have now ruled that out. My internet in fairness is generally good (as regards browsing) but I am streaming tv and its driving everyone mad because it pauses every 10 -15 seconds for a few seconds. They have now told me that the router should be able to deal with these errors because the general rule of thumb is if your router is not going down (which it doesn't) it is filtering these errors out and therefore should not be affecting the line.

They have suggested it may be something to do with the equipment but I myself still think its a broadband issue.

We run a couple of laptops, smartphones and IPAD off the wireless and connection to devices is generally good. If the tv was working well I'd have no complaints about the broadband.

Would be grateful for any suggestions/insights.

If you are connecting everything by wireless and are trying to stream then you will have problems. Wireless is one way to the extent it can transmit or receive it can't do both at the same time.

Thanks for your response. Do you think I need to connect tv system directly to router to at least test if it makes any difference as is sounds like I am maybe expecting too much from my wireless?

I'm streaming from XBMC at the moment at a speed of 2mbs and have often managed it at 1mbs depending on resolution. I don't think it's an exact science.

You might be suffering from the current congestion with Eircom to certain sites that many of us are experiencing at the minute. Does Netflix work? This seems to be the only unaffected site.

Thanks for your responses, I'm going to try and connect directly to router to rule in or out wireless issue at this point. We can view videos etc on Youtube via our devices with no problem at all so its only tv related.
