    Hi there,

Went inter railing last year and have decided to head off again this summer.
This year thinking of starting in Amsterdam and working down towards sun, Barcelona, potentially Ibiza? Anyone know of any good routes along this pathway? Roughly 3-4 weeks.
Two 25 year old girls interested in a good party along the way! :P

    Thanks! :)

Can I ask the route you picked last year, considering its this summer but thinking going east.

Would also be interested in hearing.

Currently, myself & my boyfriend cannot decide on a route.

I want to see Berlin and Krakow but he is more interested by Bosnia/Croatia/Slovenia.

    We've got 3 weeks.

    Any advice?

Bear in mind that if you choose to go Western Europe, its going to be expensive. Amsterdam - Barcelona and much of the Cities in between will be comparable to Dublin in prices for drinks/accommodation/food etc.

You've a nice bit of time though so what I'd probably do is Amsterdam -> Cologne -> Munich -> Milan -> Nice -> Barcelona and then any of the Balearic Islands. Something like 3 days per City and 5 days on an Island is just over 3 weeks. They'd all be decent places for going out; maybe Nice excepted, its a more older crowd there and the clubs are all techno in my experience.

Did a relatively Eastern route last year; Pag Island -> Zagreb -> Budapest -> Vienna -> Krakow -> Prague -> Berlin. You could potentially go further East and take in more of the Balkans and possibly Romania, maybe spend more time in Poland but you'd definitely need a decent amount of time as the train network in the Balkans isn't great.

See above for my route; I'd recommend Dubrovnik over Pag, Novalja/Zrce Beach is a bit of a kip to be honest. We did it in something like 17 days but I was shattered after it; its a perfect trip for 3 weeks. I'd probably try Bratislava over Vienna, the Austrian Capital wasn't for me; really rude people and a pretty non existent night life as far as we could see. Great place to visit as a middle aged couple; not so much for anyone in their mid 20s. In my opinion of course!

That's my thread from last year, some good advice in it.

seat61/raildude/lonelyplanet are all excellent resources too.

Oh, and do the pub crawls in each City. All of them. :)

Ah that's annoying but definitely don't let it stop you going! I've realised recently that traveling alone can be more fun. I've said it in other threads recently that as long as you pick small, high rated hostels that have social activities/pub crawls in the evening it's hard to go wrong. Anywhere that has "family dinners" in the evening should usually be a good bet as it's hard not to get talking to people around a dinner table!

I've only done it once so far but it was one of the best trips I've had and I made some great friends, something which is less likely when you are with your own friends as you tend to hang out more together then socialise with those around you especially in huge, factory like hostels. Oh and stay in a dorm! Cheaper and again, easier to make friends, and most hostels have female only dorms if it makes you more comfortable.

It's also good in the sense that you can see and do exactly what you want everyday and then re-group and socialise/party with your hostel at night.

I have 2 more solo trips coming up soon and I'm hoping they'll be as successful as my first, I just made sure to do a lot of research on hostels and read a lot of reviews focusing mainly on those that went alone. I can be pretty shy so it lifted my confidence a lot during my last stay.

Travelled with 3 other lads, so no experience of doing it solo but there were plenty of folks we encountered on the trip that were doing it solo. I wouldn't be worried about that.

Cost us about €1500 for 16 days for everything (flights/rail pass/hostels/drinking etc). I'd probably say you could do it for less but travelling on a shoestring budget isn't fun imo.

Hey! Hoping for some advice here. So I am planning to to go Cental and Eastern Europe for 3 weeks the last week of June and the first two weeks of July. My route is Berlin, Krakoff/Auschwitz/South Poland, Slovakia, Prague, Budapest/other Hungary, Slovenia and finishing off in Croatia.

Do you think 3 weeks is enough time? I only want 2 days in the likes of Berlin, Prague, more time in Poland and Croatia. Does my route sound ok? How much monez do you think I would need all in? I have not booked anything yet. Should I book an interail ticket or just buy them over there? Thanks for any help in advance.

Similar route to what we've planned :-)

We think we'll buy tickets as we go,rather than buy the inter rail ticket.

    Money wise,have no idea.

    heya!
your route sounds good. I did a more easterly route last year.
Definitely give a good bit of time to Croatia. So many beautiful places. Krakow was a personal favourite for me.. and you can do a day trip out to aushwitz from there. I wouldn't do Warsaw from what I've heard.. boring.
How do you plan on travelling to croatia? train services aren't so good there so just be mindful of this as you may have to split between buses and trains etc. Be careful not to pack too much in.. and take account of travel times. This year I'm cutting down on the number of places I'm going as last year there were times when I was under pressure to catch trains etc.
You can purchase your inter rail ticket online. google inter rail and they post it out to you.. you'll need this before you go!
In terms of money I suppose it depends on your budget, but in total including accommodation/trave/spending money.. I spent between 4 and 5k. (Now we did eat out every night and try to make the most of every city)
    Have a fab time!

Thanks for replies! So this is my draft plan, just over three weeks, June 20th to July 14th. Fly to Berlin, move on to Warsaw, Krakow, Prague, Budapest and then Croatia. I'd probably get a train to Croatia. I'll also go to interesting places near the cities listed above. I'm thinking €2.5k here all inclusive? I will be staying on hostels and eating and drinking cheap! I want to spend most of my time in Poland and Croatia.

Quite similar to my plan although I leave later! Just over 3 weeks here also. Are you getting the interail flexipass or just buying tickets as you go?

I think I will just book trains as I go they are meant to be cheap anyway. I don't see that I'll be saving by getting the interrail ticket.

A group of us has booked flights to Croatia in the start of August. Flying into Zadar, was thinking night in Pag, then few days in Split, Hvar. Was thinking about heading to Lake Bled from there but it looks like loosing a day just to get there from split.

Was considering just doing the adventure sports in Split and Hvar and going straight from Split to Budapest.

Sziget festival starts on the 11th so dont want to arrive in Budapest too early or will miss out on it.

So really have a few extra days to kill between Split/Hvar and Budapest. Any recommendations.

Had planned doing canyoning and white water rafting in Split/Bled. Diving in Hvar. Any other recommendations for adventure sports along the way?

Anyone have any experience of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia?

Have traveled solo in Australia and enjoyed it, would definitely recommend it. Another (more expensive) option would be to book a tour with topdeck, contiki or G adventures if you have reservations about it.

I went on my own two years ago, the route I took was

    Munich - Lake Bled - Ljubljana - Pula - Zagreb - Belgrade - Budapest - Bratislava - Prague - Berlin.

Lake Bled & Ljubljana are amazing!
