Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Flash contest -- mild last week of February

    This flash contest is partly to test-drive the table that Sponge Bob was mentioning in a thread discussion earlier this month.

    We'll go with a simple concept, predict (to nearest 0.1 deg C) the warmest temperature at any of the various Met-E stations as reported in "daily data" on their website, in the period from Tuesday 21st to Friday 24th. Many are thinking that Thursday might be the warmest day of the period. Use the entry form below to enter, and we'll see how it all works out.

    Edit ... just noticed the entry form says warmest from Tues to end of month (29th) so, that's my fault for changing the rule after I sent SB a message about the form, but would imagine the highest will occur in the shorter period.

    Master List should be visible HERE it is a google spreadsheet with viewing open to all.

    I don't mind knocking these up ( within reason now :D ) and leaving the contest 'organiser' to announce the competition themselves once they are happy the thing works. PM me I will PM you back the entry form link. If someone already has the same general idea I will tell you.

    The reason people should post their entry in the thread as well is to remove any possibility of forgery.

    Snowstreams entered twice, no worries. Had the 2 entries been different I would simply have deleted the one that was different to what Snowstreams posted in here leaving the correct one.

    Comp entry form
    Max temp IN C Recorded at Any Met Station ( Climatological or Synoptic) from Tuesday 21 Feb to Friday 25 Feb Inclusive.
    Mt's OP

    Any Met Station would include my station in Ashford which is a Climatological station. But there are plenty others which we don't have easy access to the data of.
    I suggest you stick with Mt's suggestion.

    Thanks for all these entries ... and any more that come in ... we will go with whatever stations report on the website, although if somebody wants to post any other official data later that's fine, the contest is what it is ... now we wait to see what actually happens.

    Does anyone know the current February record in Ireland?

    I just entered D_NIALL at 14.2 ... and it's not the first time I've been in denial about the weather.

    Good thing that "to alcohol" got his/her own forecast in or we'd have another bad joke from me.

    The deadline remains 0300h this evening as I like to call that hour of the night or day.

    Seems like the consensus is around 15.5 to 16.0 without actually working it out. SB, does the table have a feature where you can re-order the entries by temperature (instead of by time)?

    Yes. While the form is active it is disabled though and the sheet is sorted by timestamp.

    Deleting the form after the entry deadline allows sort orders to be changed.

    11.9c was the warmest to midday today I think

    still getting warmer though and its even got some sunny spells here in the Northwest.

    Will be an interesting few days and no cold weather in long range at all. Sorry coldies.
