I came across this on Mr President.
The investments that stirred concern involve two speculative stocks with business interests influenced by the government: AVI BioPharma, a biotech company, ...AVI was developing a drug to fight avian flu, and two weeks after Obama purchased the stock he introduced legislation to increase funding to combat the virus,

And it gets worse. At the same time as he was introducing the legislation he co-authored the NY Times article http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/06/opinion/06obama.html?_r=1 advocating stockpiling on anti-virals
Stockpiling enough antiviral doses to cover high-risk populations and essential workers.

Unsurprisingly, AVI's stock price rose. Change?

So as we can see there is a precedent for the fearmongering.

Im not sure he's broken any applicable laws. Theres nothing stopping the acting president from making private business investments. Im not sure it falls under Insider Trading. Though that may be worth looking into. While you're at it check into Cheny's associations with Enron.

All the same - bar the investment - its an appropriate response when you regard the avian bird flu and the mad cow disease before that. These were pandemics that cost millions of dollars, and claimed many lives.

LOL. This is just another politician doing what politicians do best. And anyway, he's a Chicago politician, that bastion of honest, stand-up politics. No conspiracy here. Just Politics.
