Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Battery power alone can be used to track Android phones

A smartphone uses more power the further away it is from a cellular base and the more obstacles are in its way as it reaches for a signal. Additional power use by other activities could be factored out with algorithms, the researchers found.
They created an app designed to collect data about power consumption.
"The malicious app has neither permission to access the GPS nor other location providers (eg cellular or wi-fi network)," the team - Yan Michalevsky, Dan Boneh and Aaron Schulman, from the computer science department at Stanford University, along with Gabi Nakibly, from Rafael Ltd - wrote in their paper.

The paper itself is available on Scribd:

What do we make of this?

From a privacy perspective, cellphones are a pain in the proverbial anyway. Shall we give up on them altogether, use burner phones which are replaced every few days or perhaps there's a workaround?

I must say, I love hearing about these novel little ways of abusing tech that people come up with. So clever. (I'm being serious)

    Indeed!

It also puts those "Security in a box" mobile phones e.g Blackphone in rather harsh perspective!
