Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey, does anyone know if the Dublin-Cork train service have a cargo carriage like the enterprise for holding bicycles or is it just a bike rack in a passenger compartment like the 22000 carriages?

It has a full luggage coach in the pointy end.

Just be aware that some off-peak services between Dublin and Cork are using 22000 trains. The Mark 4 runs most services though.

Not since the last changes in February. There are only 3 Mark 4 sets in operation now, so there are only 4 trains in either direction operated by Mark 4 sets Monday/Thursday, with the other 10 ICR operated.

The Mark 4 sets see more intense usage from Friday-Sunday, but even then the majority of trains are ICR operated.

OP when are you looking to travel?

Hoping to travel on the service leaving Dublin at 7am Friday morning. That's good to know that the service can vary. Is the increased use of other sets to do with increase services or have they reduced the use of mark 4s?

    The 0700 Dublin/Cork is a Mark 4 operated service.

They have reduced the number of Mark 4 sets in active service to just three in an effort to cut costs.

I'm just curious, is that because they can run shorter trains? The ICR 22000 sets I've been on seem to have been the same length.

Or, is it just because they burn less fuel per km?

Both - the ICRs on the Cork route vary from 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 coaches.

They can use shorter trains on services rather than being fixed to 7-8 piece Mark 4 sets.

Most of the ICR sets on Dublin/Cork are 4 piece sets, but there are longer sets on some peak services.
