I've missed 5 months of 2015 with injury, not all running related injuries but none the less frustrating. Trying to avoid injury and keep on improving slowly will be my main goal for 2016. Race wise DCM will be top of my pedestal. I will also be trying for the following over the year.

    5km 19:30
    10km 39:59
    Half marathon sub 1:30
    Dublin marathon

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,420 ✭✭✭Ososlo

Continue to love my running and continue not to get injured. That alone is enough. However, ….

Run 3,000 + miles for the year

Run Connemara ultra at a decent pace – don’t have a clue what time to aim for. 9:30 min/miles maybe

Run secret bucket-list ultra race, and not die during or after it :), and be proud of result

Run DCM if still alive. God I dunno what I’d hope for here but well under 4 hours. Let’s say 3:45ish and try not to laugh too loudly :pac:

Bring down times of all shorter distances from 5k to half. No specific targets – just improve them all as much as I’m capable of, off no specific training. Sub 23 5k would be very nice

Have my first Boardsie running date…… maybe ;) but who?

    Run 5 days a week.
    Stay injury free
    Maybe run a race.

I hope to finish my couch to 5k programme on new year's eve!

    Only two goals for 2016:
    • don't get injured.
    • >= 1250miles
I did not hit a single one of my 2015 goals :( and it's mostly down to injury I think .. lost 3-4 months with the problems starting from June onwards. To be honest I think if I managed these two goals, a lot of PBs would follow.

(of course will be hoping to have the mileage a good bit over that, but even 1250 will be a decent record , so I'll plan conservatively **for now**)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 591 ✭✭✭Cona

I think people should just take for granted that 'not getting injured' is on every ones list. No need to keep calling it out

    Goals:
    18.2x 5k
    64.xx 10 Mile
    1.24.xx Half
    3.10 Marathon

Get back running within a reasonable timeframe after the baby arrives and slowly build up distance. Am deferring a London Marathon ballot spot to 2017 so would like to be able to run around a 15-20km LSR comfortably by this time next year.

    2016 goals:

    1. a sub-3 marathon (bonus goal: under 2:55:08)
    2. 220 km in a 24 hrs race (bonus goal: over 225.3)
    3. finish Spartathlon under 33:29:04 (bonus goal: under 32 hrs)

best of luck with achieveng the goals, TFB. But should the numbers not be the other way around? Ie., you goal mara time is 2:55:08 (random time, btw) and secondary goal is sub 3.

Or what is your thinking here?

The thinking was that I'm happy with a sub-3 marathon because the marathon is not my main focus, and if I run a new PB then that's the bonus.

Similar for the 24 hrs (though that IS my focus), goal is 220 as that would guarantee a place in the 2017 championships and if I get a new PB that's a bonus.

Actually, that should have said 2:55:07. It's a random time to anyone else but to me that is my present marathon PB.

Time goals always seem a bit random, just picking random numbers slightly faster than current PB's, try to be ambitious but not too ambitious.

Pretty much write off the second half of last year so a good chunk of this year will be getting fitness back.

General plan in terms of goal races will be something like...

    March: Ballycotton
    April: K-club or GIR 10K
    May: 5K (Maybe Tallaght)
    June: Possibly Dunshaguhlin
July: Maybe Mullingar 10 Mile, Maybe not.
    August: Tullamore Half
Sept: Lucan 5 Mil Maybe, Berlin hopfully.

    November: Stook 10 Mile
    December: Jungle Bells

    Goals, injury free etc.

    1. 2000 Miles
    2. Pbs @ 5K, 5 Mile, 10K, 10 Mile, Half, Full
    3. Toe the line for a track race at some point
    4. Some Random Numbers

    5K - 19:30
    5 Mile - 33:00
    10K - 40:30
    10 Mile - 72:00
    Half - 95:00
    Full - 3:20

  • Registered Users Posts: 851 ✭✭✭thewolf_ie

This year I will highly likely smash the below.

    Sub 2:03 800 (2:08)
    Sub 4:15 1500 (4:20)
    Sub 16 5k (16:50)
    Sub 33 10k (35:30)
    Sub 1:15 half (?)

    Few national team medals!

    1. Improve PBs at all distances
    5k < 18:45 (19:15)
    10k< 40 (41:40)
    5M < 31 (32:30)
    10M <68 (80:30)
    1/2 < 1:30 (1:33:30)

    2. Train better/smarter and keep up the S&C enabling me to run >1500 miles

Make some better food choices, do a little more strength work, lay down another solid base year - 2017 is the main focus.

I actually read a great post on letsrun the other day about about goal setting. It said a good goal should make your hands sweat when you think about it but not be so far out there that they seem inpossible. It's more about motivating you to do the work towards those goals than actually hitting them.

    My targets for 2016:

    Marathon: 2:54
    3000m Steeple: 10:59
    3000m: 9:59
    Mile: 4:54
    10k: 36:59
    400m: 59
    5k: 17:29
    Score on all XC teams

We'll see what happens. Hopefully, 2016 will be the year of a ton of a PBs.

To try and maintain current levels of awesomeness!

That bar is low, can't be too hard! :D
    Main goals
    - Sub 2.40 marathon

    Rotterdam?

    RUNNING GOALS...WOOHOOOO

    - Stay healthy
    - Run spring marathon as a springboard
    - PB in Berlin
    - PB across pretty much all distances - based on my 10 mile and 4 mile times from the last time I raced in 2013, my 5k, 10k and half marathon times were all pretty soft (and 5 mile)

I'm going to spend some time between spring marathon and Berlin doing some triathlons so might not fit all race distances in but sure we'll see.
I'm typically terrible at running in warm/humid weather (even Irish summers aren't great for me) so the Berlin goal may be tough. Much better at Autumn/Winter/early Spring running when I tend to start getting fit, strong and fast so a decent marathon whack might have to wait till spring 2017

My goal is to continue to play the long game.

Boston: 3:22:xx and the NY qualifier
Failing that, 1:35:xx at Dublin HM for same.
    10m - 69:xx
    10k - 42:xx
    5m: 33:xx
    5k: 20:30
    1m: 5:59

Other: help club to M50 medal somewhere (anywhere). 2k+ miles. Another pacing gig. Race DCM again.

First goal is to get back to consistent running.

    Then, wish list for 2016:
    5k: sub-24 (current 24:16)
5mi: sub 40 (from 41:18).... probably not at Raheny but maybe Terenure
    10K: sub 50 (from 51:18)
HM: sub 1:50, maybe even a NY Qualifier of 1:49 (from 1:55 this year)

If I was to do DCM again, would be looking for 3:59:xx, but won't do it unless I can put the time in to train properly.

Lots of parkruns, with parkrun tourism thrown in... Bere Island is especially appealing.

    Keep on running!

    My goals:

Run and finish at least two 100 milers.

    Run a 24hr race.

Have a few training runs in some amazing locations maybe Dubai, maybe Sydney.

Run 4hrs 30 mins in the Connemara ultra!

Go sub 2.45 in the DCM.

    Remain injury free.

Only started running half way through this year so looking forward to getting a full year together and setting some goals.

    Sub 20 minute 5k
    Sub 40 minute 10k
    1.3x.xx half marathon
Run 1000k (maybe 1000 miles depending how its going)

  • Registered Users Posts: 437 ✭✭FIFA2004

Still be running this time next year!
    5km in under 30mins
Run 10km regularly, try for under 60min
Run in one or more of the race series events
Maybe....... Do a half marathon, or at least be in a position to try early in 2017!

    2016 Goals

    (In no particular order)

    - maintain strength and conditioning gym routine; once a week generally and twice a week in early base building phase and post-season rest period

    - I have a fair collection of county medals from the last 12 months and a middling collection of provincial. The national column however, is looking a bit sad and empty. I'd like to right this with team and individual medals so:

We have an outside team chance at the national masters xc in January
We also have a good chance at the national masters road relays in April
And the main goal is a national medal at the masters 1500. It was won in 4:56 (I think) this year but my goal is to run 4:50 (current 5:11)

    - I'd also like to qualify for the Masters International XC from the Open in October. I was 4 places off, this year's selection. Hopefully can gain those four places, and some, by next October:cool:

That's it really for 2016. Any time goals are spread out over 2016-17. I'm not sure it's feasible to aim for PBs in all distances in one twelve month period but I'll be shooting for as many as possible on the Main Thing 10 Round Numbers Table in 2016

Best of everything to everyone with theirs!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,534 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

Hard to follow the above list of aggressive targets, but this year, it's go hard or go home time, so I'm laying it all on the line. Some unfulfilled targets from last year, some a little more realistic, some based on improvements this year:

    400m 59.xx seconds
    1 Mile: Sub 4:40
    3k: 9:10
    5k: Sub 15:40
    10k: Sub 32:30
    10 Mile: < 53:30
    1/2M: Sub 71:30
    Marathon: 2:29:59

They're not all comparative targets, but I guess I'm getting an idea of where my strengths lie, and what distances I'll be training for next year (10k, 1/2M, Marathon). Little doubt I'll fail miserably at most of these, but if I make a couple of them, I'll be happy. One other slightly unusual goal: run less that I did this year. I've hit my max - the goal next year, is to do more with less. My base is as as good as it's ever gonna get, so time to focus more on the quality in the new year and less on the general maintenance. All or nothing.

Get to ideal weight and keep it off for more than two days.
Use meno plan to race Cork Marathon.
Other races will be Lord Mayors Challenge, Raheny, K club, Terenure, full race series and do DCM for fun/maybe pace if not too green. Will race if Cork doesn't go well.
    10k - Sub 45
    HM - Sub 1:40
    Stay consistently running.

    1. Sub 21 5k (Currently at 23:something).
    2. Debut in the longer distances (5m, 10k, 10m, HM).
    3. Complete the Dublin Race Series.
    4. Run more than 1609.34 km.

I had a good year this year and hope to carry it forward for next year. I did mostly 5 and 10k's this year witch resulted in pb's at both distances and 5 mile also. So for next year I hope to improve these times again and also go longer for the first time. Looking to go to 10mile and HM. So something like this

    5k now 20.59 under 20
    5mile now 36.47 under 34
    10k now 45.55 under 43
Be as competitive as I can be for 10mile and HM . Will have to pick goal times closer to race dates
