Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
    Réalt Dearg hurling club will be holding a new players meeting on Wednesday 12th January at 20.30 in Vaughan's Eagle House in Terenure.

    Players of all levels and abilities welcome. The club is striving to enter two teams this year so will need to increase the number from the approx 35 players we had involved last year.
    Training recommences in Bushy Park, Terenure on Saturday 15th January at 12.00. Cup competitions should be starting up shortly after this. Anyone interested all you need to do is drop into the meeting or else down to Bushy Park on Saturday week. For insurance reasons helmets are compulsory for training. Looking forward to seeing new faces at training!

    Dublin Aussie rules team are on the look-out for new players! With the national mens team well established, it is now time to develop a Dublin squad for the LADIES!

    So come down to training and see if this is the game for you! Learn new skills like how to kick and handpass and take a mark.

    No previous experience necessary, all levels are welcome, any nationality welcome!

    There is also a fantastic opportunity for players to represent their country at international level, with international competitions including European Championships and World Cup, amongst others. We currently have several players involved in the Irish squad. Very few other sports offer such an opportunity for representing your country and travel.

    We are due to begin training in Pheonix park as soon as we have enough players!

    Ok so slightly unfit 30 year old with very little experience of football wants to give it a go. Looking for noting too serious to start obviously, a good group of welcoming lads with a good social scene also would be good.

    Ok below is the generic email that the lads were sending out. But, the club has decided to form a ladies football team. So anyone that's interested or if you know of any other lovely ladies that would be interested please please join up, Its a really fun club!


    Park Rangers GAA club are based in the Phoenix park, the club is exclusively made up of country lads living in Dublin. We gained promotion last season to Division 8 of the Adult Football league and we are currently looking for new players for the coming season to participate in our preseason training and to play with us for the coming season.

    The club is a great way to meet new people in Dublin and we have a very active social scene, the highlight of the coming seasons will be our trip to the Hague to participate in a 7 a side tournament (based upon our experience last year we would need a panel of 40 just to get 7 players on the pitch!). We take the league and championship very seriously however, and the preseason training will be taken by a fitness instructor over an 8 week period. Essentially we are looking for players and volunteers who may no longer play, but wish to get involved. Don't worry about fitness or the standard of football previously played, there is a place for everyone in our club.

    Two reasons why you should drop us a line, 1st the craic is unreal and 2nd its cheaper than going a gym!! To register your interest or for further information on our club such as preseason training and social events for 2011 please email your interest to secretary.parkrangers.dublin@gaa.ie

    Hi all,

    Just in case any of you are living in, or moving to, the Netherlands, Amsterdam GAA are looking for new players.

    There's a very big Irish community in Amsterdam and we have a mens and ladies GAA team set up here. We play in European competitions during the year in places like Brussels, Luxembourg, Copenhagen, Munich, Budapest etc so it's good fun with some great weekends away.

    We're about to start training at the end of January/early February for the new season and we're looking for new mens and ladies players.

    We train twice a week during the year, and we have a lot of players from Utrecht, Haarlem, and some have played from Eindhoven, Rotterdam, so we're not just looking for Amsterdam based players. Obviously a lot of the lads and ladies coming from outside of Amsterdam don't train during the week (due to travel distances), but they come to the monthly tournaments instead.

    Anyways if you fancy playing, or know of any other Irish (or any nationality...we have a lot of Brits, Aussies, Dutchies etc that play) who might be interested and are living in The Netherlands, feel free to pass on my details or get in contact with me yourself.

    Geraldines GAA Club play in Cornelscourt in the field beside Dunnes. Small club and a small team so would be good club to start.

    The Irish Sports and Social club (ISSC) is the only GAA club in Vancouver, British Columbia. Founded in 1974 we have been flying the flag for the GAA here ever since. As a member of the Canadian County Board we are part of the Western Canadian Division that also includes clubs from neighbouring Alberta. The ISSC is also closely involved in all Irish related social and cultural events that take place in Vancouver.

    We play men’s and ladies’ football as well as men’s hurling. Currently we are the holders of both the Men's and Ladies Western Canadian Championships in Gaelic Football.. The hurling team travelled to Chicago in September 2010 to compete in the North American County Board (NACB) Championships at Junior A grade. Vancouver defeated San Francisco Naomh Padraig in the final by four points to become the first Canadian Hurling team to win an NACB Hurling title since 1978.

    The season runs from March to September with 2-3 training sessions a week for all teams, the mens Celts and Harps, Joseph P Ryans hurling team and the ladies football teams (Celts, Shamrocks and Harps). The club is now registering members for the 2011 season. Teams play in a number of competitions in Vancouver, Alberta, Seattle and the NACB Championships in San Francisco over Labour weekend (Sep 2nd to 4th).

    I am a very unfit 30 year old hurler looking for a club to train to get fit have not played in 9 years but was at a high level then . Just wanna get involved again / get fit i have probably have lost all ball skills . Ideally looking for Any clubs in the stoneybatter / phoenix park area looking for members . Will travel to greater Dublin area for any other clubs . This is mainly cause I now have the time to do it again and i know I won't make a team but just wanna get involved again.

    Hey lads.
    ive been interested in getting into gaa for a while now.
    I havent played since I was about 13.
    im 25 now.

    Im not the most fit person,
    but I can last a litle bit!


    But anyway what im really wanting to ask is,
    If wanted to join a team, how do I go about it?
    I was lookin at the websites for ballymn and st vincents but theres not much info on joining.
    Do I just ring up and ask or how does it work?

    In response to the two guys above looking to get back into the game, Réalt Dearg sounds like a good fit if you would play on the southside? We were founded in 2010 by a group of lads who saw the need for a hurling club in Dublin south. We will be training primarily in Bushy Park, Terenure or in Ringsend Park once the clocks go forward. At the moment we are training twice a week in the Thomas Davis Astro pitch in Tallaght and at the weekend in Bushy or Ringsend.

    We have all levels of hurlers involved in the club, from beginners to those who previously hurled at a higher standard but for work reasons or whatever have been out of the game for a while or can't make it back down the country for training. We have two adult teams, one in Junior E and one in Junior F, you have to start at the bottom and work your way up! All new players are more than welcome, check out www.realtdearg.ie for details and call or text one of the lads on the committee to find out training times as they can change.

    Just to bump this thread back up. Réalt Dearg were narrowly defeated yesterday in their Leinster League debut. In one of the best performances I've seen from the Stars they were only beaten by a point by Edenderry, a team in Junior A in Offaly. Not bad for a team in Junior E and F!

    We are looking to get more people involved as players but most importantly as selectors/managers to relieve the pressure from the players who, so far, have had to pick the team as well as playing. For anyone out there that would like to join us don't worry about your level, we have everything from beginners to lads who've hurled minor and more for county teams and everything in between! We really need some more players to ensure we have enough to continue with two teams for the year. Also anyone who would like to try out management would be more than welcome.     Hi all, My name is Mark, i'm from Waterford.

    I am looking to join a gaa team in either hurling or football, I played for aprox 7-8 years when I was younger. I played in goals/right full forward in both sports but am willing to play anywhere.

    I think Mark the best thing to do is find out who is your nearest club and go down and find out when their juniors are training and look to join up. Im moving to Dublin myself and the evening I sorted out my accomodation I went down to the nearest club and watched training and since have asked someone I know in the area to help me out. If you are waiting for someone to sign you up im afraid you might be waiting a while! Best of Luck!

    Great to hear that, training is usually on in Bushy Park, Terenure. Be sure to give one of the lads on the committee a shout before you go down just incase the times on the site have changed. I won't be down myself as I'm out injured for a few weeks but the more the merrier. As we said before alot of lads only took up hurling last year and have come on huge amounts, we even have a couple of lads from Canada and Germany that got involved and loved the sport so don't worry about only taking it up! You'll have to bring you're own hurl and helmet but once you've them got you're all set!

    Are you from Dublin originally? We're very keen to increase our numbers of locals so we are more a part of the community!:D

    Great to hear that, training is usually on in Bushy Park, Terenure. Be sure to give one of the lads on the committee a shout before you go down just incase the times on the site have changed. I won't be down myself as I'm out injured for a few weeks but the more the merrier. As we said before alot of lads only took up hurling last year and have come on huge amounts, we even have a couple of lads from Canada and Germany that got involved and loved the sport so don't worry about only taking it up! You'll have to bring you're own hurl and helmet but once you've them got you're all set!

    Are you from Dublin originally? We're very keen to increase our numbers of locals so we are more a part of the community!:D

    I was born in London, my parents are both Irish, Tipperary and Waterford, but live in London now. I moved over in the summer to Wicklow, and been living in Dublin since February.

    Good stuff, great that you're getting involved in the local sport and it will be a great way for you to meet a whole new group of people. We've got a great crowd in the club now and there is a real bond forming between the gang.
    That said we're aiming to establish a club without the cliques you sometimes get in clubs, one where, without wanting to be cliché, the new guy is always welcome even in 20 years time when we're going for our 10th senior championship in a row:D

    If you're buying a hurl it might be worth checking out this site, it's linked from our page, some of the sports shop ones are overpriced and of a questionable standard!

    In terms of size of the hurl it will be hard for you to know what feels right not having played before but as a rough guide I would say get a 34" if you are under 6 foot, then maybe 35" or 36" if you're very tall!

    Thanks for your reply, the club sounds very positive. Thanks for the link, I'm just under 6 feet 2, will go for the 36" hurl. Gonna get myself down the field and have a good practice to get the feel for it. I emailed the committee last night, be great to get down and meet the lads. Will get myself down to watch the next home game, to get a feel for the club. Do you have a game next weekend?

    Good stuff, the B team have a challenge match against Kilmacud Crokes at 7.30pm tomorrow evening, Thursday the 5th. I'm not sure is that at home or away but either way it's not very far. I'd give the club secretary a text to check where it is as he is also captain of that team.

    Alternatively this sunday is a GAA designated club day(Lá na gClub in irish). The lads are trying to organise a 7 aside tournament amongst our own players to take place at 2pm(again a text to confirm would be wise:)) in Bushy Park, Terenure which should be great craic and a good way to meet the lads so feel free to go on down to that!

    After that championship matches are not far away with the B team playing on the 10th of May and the A team on the 15th. Plenty of matches for you to watch to start off with and there should be training every Monday and Thursday at 7pm in Bushy Park to get the basics down too!:D

    I'm not going to be doing any thing for the next few months over the summer and was thinking of joining the local football team but what's the rules for this? Is there any time, like end or start of season, when your supposed to join or can I basically ring the manager anytime and ask to join in a training session? Is the manager even the right person to ring?

    AFAIK, you can't register with a club after 1st April, though I could be wrong - I'm not involved with a mens club, but I remember looking at something recently about the online registration system.

    edit - though tbh, I can't see why members cannot register after that, especially if just beginning

    You can register/join with a club at any point in the year as long as you are a "free agent" and don't require a transfer from another club. You only need to be registered before a certain date to have voting rights in AGMs etc.

    In answer to the OP's query, yes ring the manager and he will be able to give you all the information regarding training times etc.

    Any other info: We are a very centrally located GAA Club which has been in existence for over 90 years and field 2 Gaelic Football teams and a Hurling Team. The team was originally made up of staff of the Psychiatric Hospital whose grounds we use. But in the last number of years our playing base has grown to include lads from every corner of Ireland and even from abroad. We train twice a week in Grangegorman at 7pm for football and 6:30pm for hurling (unless there are thursday evening games). We will be remaining in Grangegorman when DIT move in. At that stage we will have access to their facilities.
