Went down to the off-licence place to get cans and well i was told that all drinks have gone up 10c a can, bottle etc and in the pub too. I onlt noticed this today and it didnt happen last week.

Now when did this happen? Has some new tax been added or did the greedy off licence just get too greedy?

That might not last, I can foresee limitation quota per person on beer in the near future as this stuff will soon be e_tagged.. Brother lives in Fermanagh and can get 12 large cans of Carlsberg for £8

Carlsberg from the north is complete crap.

Its not brewed by the same people as 'our' Carlsberg and no proper Carlsberg drinker (me) can stomach the stuff.

Id like to take this moment to point and laugh at those who laughed at smokers over the 10c increase on a pack of smokes last week.

    Ha-ha

In the offie i work in, its only the prices of Diageo products that went up, i.e. Guinness, Bud, Carlsberg.

its probably not a tax at all. I love it when people blame political parties for the most irrelevant things in the world. Personally the opening hours annoys me. 10c increase in beers less so.
I remember around 5 years ago loads of the offys started putting the price of the old reliable 6 for 7 deals up to 7.50 but then most had to just stop cause cheapo kids like me at the time would just avoid the ones we knew were rip offs (when you go knacker drinking you tend to be very selective in your offys) In the end most went back to 6 for 7.
If people just switch to a cheaper one it will proably go back.

I really feel for you, I really do. Its such a disgrace having to pay so much for beer

because the cost of living never goes up, the cost of running a shop, paying property dues, etc.

didnt read the replies, but id say it has nothing to do with tax... more so the fact that they are closing alot earlier these days with this new poxy law thats been passed where they have to close at ten.. so they are mildly compensating for the loss that they are encountering atm.

Yeah and as if the smoking ban wasnt bad enough on pubs now the ones with an off licence are losing an hours worth of sales i guess its not surprising if thats the reason. But on a serious note i cant afford my usual "stock" of bulmers anymore im getting ripped off and i dont like it.

I got charged 19.60 for 8 Bulmers yesterday and 80c increase. Someone or something is telling me to quit boozing or drink the cheap stuff. Im not paying that price anymore its disgraceful back to "Dutch Gold" i guess or another cheap beer.

    Thats not true.
The prices this week are the same they were a month ago.
Infact Smirnoff and JD has decreased in price...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,095 ✭✭✭Wurly

That's right - everyone keep putting up their prices til no-one has an arse in their throusers.. Pack of gimps.

I wonder what beers lidl have on speacial this week.....:) Beer is beer - not fussy.. I would rarely buy from an off licence anyway if I could help it. They are renowned for being more expensive generally.

A poster above said it well - just shop around. Stop buying the dear stuff. They will have to reduce prices if no-one continues to buy.

I wonder if i took orders online + bought a load up north and delivered in the republic, would it be legal?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,462 ✭✭✭✭WoollyRedHat

Dunno about the legal part, but as for the idea sounds pretty good!

The delivery would probably cost more than the savings you would be making.
