Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Fixie to single speed

    Hello

    Is it possible to convert a purely fixie bike to a single speed bike ?

    And if so, how much would it cost and is it a big job ?

    And its taken that the fixie has 2 brakes installed already

    Do you have a flip flop hub? If not, you will need a new back wheel.

    You'll need a new hub, which should be reasonably cheap. You should easily be able to fund it with the sale of your multi-speed fixed hub.

    this is the thing, im only thinking of doing it, I don't even have the bike yet.

    OP, I have a set of wheels with a flip flop hub, 16t 1/8 sprocket and tyres I was gonna put up in the ads section for 80 euro.

    have one for sale 120 quid 54 frame schwinn racer good bits new rear tyre, single speed coaster brakes good condition little scratch marks on the frame bad points flat wheels from not using needs two new tubes.

    On most bikes it is possible. The sprocket at the back can be unscrewed and a freewheel put in is place such as this http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/ie/en/shimano-single-speed-freewheel/rp-prod7805

    It is not a big job but the sprocket might be very tight so a bike shop might be an idea if you are not comfortable with toying with the wheel. If you are buying the freewheel from them they may even fit it for free.
