Unfortunately didn't see a lot of this game but caught the 4th quarter. Looks like this was one where we shot ourselves in the foot. The punt return followed by the fumble and game over. After being well in until that point. Disappointing.

    Aye.

I'm not so put out by it today, actually. Had expected a loss until I heard Stanton was starting, and I had been pretty down about the performance last week.

This week was a massive improvement. JPP looks back to his old self (and I thought he was good last week too, to be fair). Our D held up well enough, actually, aside from the 1st quarter. I blame a lot of that on the refs as well, two soft penalty calls at crucial moments that handed Arizona 10 points.

Especially annoying when Randle was held/impeded twice and neither were called at big moments in the game.

Indiscipline and physical errors cost us the game in the 2nd then. Dropped passes by Cruz, and also Randle. Bowman had Ginn wrapped up on the ensuing punt return, and somehow he breaks free and goes the distance.

Then Demps fumbles the return on our end. You couldn't write the script better, really.

Few penalties in 2nd half that were stupid, Prince in particular. So yeah, we definitely handed them the win.

However, some promising signs that we're actually not too horrific a team. Eli did very well, Donnell too. OL held up as the game went on, especially in the 2nd half. Shame Schwartz is out as long as he is for, and ODB. They could really add something after the bye, however.

Texans will be a big game. Don't win it, and I do think we could be picking in top 5 next year. Win, and I think we have a good chance of pushing on. Football can really come down to singular games like this that shift momentum one way or another.

ST and discipline need to be brushed up upon before next week, and its annoying to be saying the latter about a TC team. Was an issue last season as well.

    Thurmond out for the season

    Torn pectoral muscle

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

    Ah Christ :(

Beason injured as well, so we can't even play some nickle packages with Thurmond in there to alleviate that at times. Light as hell at safety, so Rolle won't be moving up to play third safety/nickle either.

Bowman or McBride, I suppose. Sooner Kennard is back, the better as well.

Might mean Giants will resign Charles James, actually.

  • Registered Users Posts: 944 ✭✭✭tgdaly

Thurmond and Beason being injured is the last thing we needed really. Some good and bad last night, JPP, Manning and Donnell were the positives. Horrible special teams play among the negative. I'm surprised like the offense looked like it was starting to click last night but is it just me or is there something not right about Cruz? He had some terrible drops the last 2 weeks now. He usually has hands like glue, and those drops last night came after a week where he was calling for the ball in the media. He seems to be frustrated, maybe due to not be understanding the new offense?

Cruz has had a few dodgy games over the past few years with drops, tbh. He has one of the worst drop rates for starting WR's over the past 4 years as well, I think.

He'll get it right though. I far prefer seeing the physical mistakes that you know can be corrected, rather than the miscommunication farces that we have been seeing.

One major annoyance for me, actually. How the hell is Kiwi starting ahead of both Moore and Ayers? Typical TC decision, imo.

Push him down the depth chart, and fast.

TC was asked last week by the media why Moore wasn't getting many snaps and he said that he didn't know. He looks like a far cry from a 2 x SB coach atm.

I'm still in the camp that JR has left huge holes in the side and we have very little depth.

So jernigan and thurmond both put on season ending IR today and beason is off to see a specialist about his foot

Jernigan as well? Christ, we have no luck.

Might get to see Corey Washington some more. OBJ unlikely to play this week again.

With Beason out & Kennard dinged up Spencer Paysinger should be back in the line-up as well.

Last week and this week were/are 2 great chances to get a win (Stanton/Fitzpatrick) I fear for us if we fail to get that first W

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

McClain as Mike, and Paysinger and Williams as the two OLBs, I suppose. McClain was poor on the strong side last week, I felt, but we have no one else.

Herzlich was a disaster in the few snaps he had. He's too slow and immobile, and ultimately, not good enough.

I imagine Parker will start first, Washington will then get a few snaps and go from there

One thing I don't want to see from this season is Mara or Tisch deciding that firing Reese solves all our problems. The coaches have failed to prepare this team and we're still making the same juvenile errors that we have for a number of years under TC. He's been a great coach becuase he won two superbowls but his regular season record is pretty poor. Both Reese and Coughlin should go. Reese should go for failing to provide talent and depth in the team and Coughlin should go for failing to make the most of his resources. The team looks so flat and the coach has to do a better job.

Devon Kennard is also out. Paysinger, Williams & McClain to start at LB. Herslich & Fox (activated to the 53) will back them up. Would rather see Fox in the game than Herslich.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Aye. I've seen enough of Herslich to know that he's a disaster.

Much better performance last night. Only caught the last quarter but from what I seen live and from highlights and what I heard plenty of positives. The defense created turnovers, special teams blocked a punt, the running game got going with Jennings, and most importantly Eli had a good game. 2 touchdowns, no picks, and a 75% completion rate. Hopefully this continues

Much better performance but couple of poor moments (Donnell fumble & the botched snap on the field goal) are still worrying as better teams in close games will punish those errors.

That said Cruz & Eli looked like they had met before, Donnell continues to impress, Jennngs looked like a lead back & the o-line held it's own against a decent front 7.

Hankins has been nothing short of sensational & nice to see the secondary create someturnovers

    Big game tomorrow

Hopefully Eli can pick apart their secondary

Think we will win this one and go to 2-2

Ravens are having desperate trouble at free safety and fans seem to be clamouring for Will Hill. His 6 week suspension is over soon

I can't say I know a whole lot about him. Is he a ball hawking free safety who'll be clocking up interceptions like Ed Reed used to do? :) Here's hoping!

I've read his wikipedia page and all I see is an UDFA who clocked up multiple suspensions in barely any time at all. Not encoraging

Is the hype justified and would Giant fans miss him?

He would absolutely be starting for us, and he is sorely missed, tbh.

He runs sideline to sideline, and has decent speed. He's aggressive, and a good tackler.

Not so sure about the INTs part of his game, but he was really looking like an absolute find for us, so I wouldn't put it past him. 2 INTs and 2 forced fumbles when he came into the team last year. Not to be snubbed at.

Watching Stevie Brown this year has me almost pulling my hair out, so I can't help but feel some regret at seeing Hill with the Ravens.

Looking forward to seeing more Hynoski tonight, actually. He'll play a big factor in helping the Giants test the edge against what is an excellent run D.

Can't see getting any success from our Shotgun runs, something which we did a lot of so far, especially in the game v Lions. Great to see the OL improving, and even Donnell showing what he can do in the blocking game. (see the clips of both Jerry and Beatty mincing people in the run game?!)

Cousins wasn't touched once in almost 50 dropbacks v Eagles, so interesting to see what happens if we can get some pressure. We did very well last year against them (Tuck springs to mind), so maybe TC and co have an insight into what works against this OL. I hope so, anyway!

On the otherside, Jackson has had our number over the years, so really hoping DRC can be the man who steps up to take that threat away. I think Prince and Garcon would be an evenly enough matched competition, as well.

Rumours that the rookie Berhe will start instead of Brown, who I am all for dropping. However, wondering why Demps is being overlooked, as thought Berhe's skillset would be more suited to the SS role.

The better defence will win this game, and I really hope that ours steps up tonight. JPP and Hank the Tank are playing at a Pro Bowl level, IMO, and I expect more again from the former.

Kiwi is getting sat more, thank Jesus, and Ayers and Moore are getting more of a chance to show what they can do. We need people to step up tonight, as if we don't beat the Skins, then goodbye playoffs.

We beat the Texans, but we really should be doing that anyway when you consider their injuries etc. We should have beaten Arizona, but at least they went and got the W v 49'ers, so perhaps not the worst, considering we beat ourselves in that game.

Redskins are not a playoff caliber team, if we implode against these, then we're back to square 1 all over again.

Ill gladly take 2-2 after the way the Lions game went. But the only doubt i have is in the last 2 games we have come up against 2 of the worst QB performances of the year so far. But on the other hand Eli's form in those games meant that we more than likely would have won them anyway had we come up against a QB who didnt throw INT's like they were going out of fashion !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,053 ✭✭✭boccy23

    Crazy stat:
Of 9 receiving TDs in 2014, 7 of them have gone to the Tight End.

I seriously questioned the team's tactics over camp but I have been proved incorrect so far.

Last night gave me room for optimism that we can be at least competitive and compete for a Wild Card. Deagles are too good but maybe, just maybe, we can compete.

Just got around to watching the game now

    - Eli was pretty spectacular. Had it not been for a few poor drops (Cruz & Jennings) & being robbed of the Randle TD he would have a perfect game. The quick release & throws are really helping him & the oline

    - Larry Donnell :) Very impressive & sure handed. The TD catch over the corner was outstanding

    - Nice to see Victor Cruz getting his mojo back. One poor drop & a couple of close plays. At this rate there is no reason not for him to bounce back to over 1,000 yards. Once OBJ hits the line-up things could really pick up for him

    - Pugh (we knew already) & Richburg are really great foundations for the o-line for the next 5 years

    - Good god Mark Herslich is awful. I know Kennard & Beason are out but surely Paysinger, Williams & McClain should have been on the field at all times unless there was a nickel formation. Look he is a great special teamer & has the respect of everyone but we can't succeed if he plays anything more than a handful of defensive snaps per game

    - My disappointment (outrage) at losing Linval Joseph is slowly fading as Big Hank continues to impress. Depending on how Bromley pans out we will need to look to add a DT in the next draft as Jenkins is not the player of old & Patterson is at best a back up DT.

    - A word of caution to finish is that we have beaten Ryan Fitzpatrick & Kirk Cousins in the past 2 weeks so I won't be getting overly carried away as the 1st 2 games and pre-season still linger in the mind

    - I'm a big fan of Peyton Hillis & he did a great job in a tough spot for us last year so it says a lot about Andre Williams that Coughlin trusts him over Hillis. He was very good in pass protection in his limited action last night & is a battering ram in the ground game. Could easily be the lead back in the coming seasons

    - Adrien Robinson exists!!!!! His 1st NFL catch

    - Ryan Nassib got his 1st taste on NFL action last night, personally I'd have got him to throw a few passes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

Larry Donnell lost on his fantasy football league last week as he benched himself in favour of Vernon Davis

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

Mario Manningham has been released today. Think it is likely to be the end of the line for him in the NFL. Will always have one of the great SuperBowl plays (not as good as Manning to Tyree but still pretty spectacular)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

The Broncos cut Matt Prater & are going with Brandon McManus as their kicker. He is 3 of 3 on field goals this year with 14 of his 16 kicks offs going for touch backs.

Delighted for McManus & hope we don't regret the decision to release him. Brown is a good kicker but McManus has clearly got a longer career ahead of him

With the move we have also received the Broncos 7th round pick in 2015

We have all seen Eli play really well in the past 3 weeks. To back that up he is ranked as the 6th rated QB in QBR this year

He has been very good and looks far more comfortable which is surprising really as he looked very out of sync in preseason. Hopefully Reese can see what a big receiver can do for Eli. We really need that big tight end as a target for him.

OBJ is active and set to make his debut. Not expecting too much from him tonight but it would be nice if he caught a pass just to get going. No word on the number of snaps he will play but I would assume Coughlin & McAdoo will be fairly cautious with him.

    Excited to see him play

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,317 ✭✭✭HigginsJ

Fantastic stuff & a good comeback from 20-10 down. Eli has 8 td's to 1 int (never an int) in his last 3 games

Just heard jennings doesn't need surgery on his knee (sprain) but not sure when he'll be back

Just heard jennings doesn't need surgery on his knee (sprain) but not sure when he'll be back

Yea it's a sprained MCL. He won't play against the Eagles & is doubtful for the Cowgirls. Have a bye week then so hopefully good to go at that point.

So Andre Williams & Peyton Hillis to carry the load. The running game has Ben pretty solid this year & truth be told I'm pretty confident in that pair. Loved the pick when we drafted Williams & no evidence to prove otherwise to date.

Peyton Hillis has been rock solid for us since last year. If we give Williams 20 carries & 10 to Hillis & they combine for over 120 yards we should be fine.

Had not spotted this from Hillis until now.

I just don't understand it, nice bit of momentum going with the 3 decent wins after a brutal start.

Offensive line was an absolute joke all night.. Did anyone wanna block and don't get me started on the penalties.

And to top it all off a lot of my friends are cowgirl fans.. Jesus I hate them more than any other team.

Some serious character needed and leaders need to step up and be counted.

  • Registered Users Posts: 944 ✭✭✭tgdaly

That's the worst performance I've seen by an offensive all season by any team in the league, not just the giants. It really was an embarrassing performance. And lets be honest the eagles d-line is hardly up there with the rams or the texans in the league

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Saw Pugh with a cast/strap on his left arm before the game and I got worried. Eagles exploited it from the first snap.

    That game was rough.

Does any other team in the NFL have the capacity to blow up like the Giants did last night? Wow.
