Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

vrt needed donedeal

    Hey there,

    i want to buy an 08 focus 1.6 diesel for the low tax and insurance. almost every second car is imported from england and i would need to pay the vrt myself.

    what i want to know is..... if it's so handy just to go and pay the vrt why don't the dealers pay it then sell them and make a bigger profit. Does anyone know if it's worth buying an english car on english plates or am i just better off getting an irish reg car.

    Still money to saved importing on newer cars. Not as much as there was.

    ...sorry, are you saying garages are trying to sell you a UK reg Focus, that you have to VRT yourself ?

    Sorry, but that makes no sense at all.

    Registered traders don't have to pay the VRT until they sell the car off the lot: but they still have to pay it. Are you sure you've picking it up right ?

    Private sellers - well, that's a different ball of wax entirely.

    the dealer is obliged to pay the VRT on selling the car as said. It isn't advisable to buy a car privately without the VRT paid as the seller is not entitled to sell it to you.

    You'll find that most of these cars are auction fodder bought cheap in the UK and bought by low level traders that don't pay taxes or rates. They dont register them because then they'd be on the radar for revenue.

    Yes absolutely. The OP is clearly referring to 'donedeal traders'. These guys are not registered with revenue and dont want any records connecting them to the car trade. They therefore bring in the car from uk and sell it as is. They will also not be offering a warranty so its quick, tax free profit for them and no come back.
