Lads just a very quick question regarding the Revolut card. I have topped up my card in euro. Do I need to exchange it to dollars in the app or will it just do it auto for me when I withdraw in dollars in Vegas?

Also just to give folks a heads up. Make sure you withdraw at actual bank ATMs over there and not the casino ATMs as the vast majority of casinos charge 3% per transaction. You shouldn't get charged at all using the card at the likes of Bank of America etc ATMs

You need to convert it to dollars via the app.

You don't have to convert it to dollars, it would automatically take it out of your euro balance.

Handy to know exactly what dollars you have though so converting is wise.

Got upgraded in Excalibur from standard room to 'royal room' (basically a bit bigger and slightly nicer) also got a 'strip view' but I'm not sure that's true as I'm only facing Mandalay and Luxor haha.

Either way, was worth a twenty dollar punt. Any recommendations for quick breakfast before weigh in?

Don't really want to go near the MGM as i know how busy it will be but need somewhere close.

Eating a nice one at America now in the NYNY, huge plate of food for 15

    Just.......about......recovered.....! lol

Not been on here since I got back, needed some time to get over it all and didn't want to read through the usual influx of idiots that come on here around McGregor fights :D

So just a couple of things from me that was talked about before.
Stratosphere hotel - it was fine but as mentioned by someone it is a bit out of the way for a strip hotel. I wasn't keen walking about much outside it as it didnt look the best of areas and had quite a few beggars but for $8 I got the 24 h bus pass which used to get up & down the strip....took maybe 1/2 though with traffic. IF(thats all Im saying at this stage lol) I go back again I would look to get a hotel up closer to MGM as there seems to be bit more craic up around that area of strip.
I forgot about the $20 checkin thing but I did get given a choice of different type of room and just said I'll take whatever 1 the receptionist thinks is best.

Revolt card - nightmare :( Spent about 3 hours 1st morning I was there texting the cust support. Turns out(which was news to them) that the app is not compatible with my phone so can't see the full screen! I've a htc 1, its a fairly common handset I thought?!? Then tried a bank transfer which never completed(Im still trying to sort out!). Sounds a great idea but unfortunately not for me. Left me a bit short of money while I was there but just meant I didn't spunk away a load on the poker tables so maybe a blessing in disguise lol

I had a great seat for the event, was just under the foxsports desk and above the walk on lane(If you squint really hard you can see my flag when Conor walks out lol). I meant to hang about after to try and meet some fighters going upto it but got carried away singing and chanting with the crowds going out and forgot clean about it :(

The only fighter I really seen(not in Octagon) was Ryan Hall after 194. He was sitting outside the Irish bar(I think) facing the mgm. I wasnt talking to him as he was sitting with friends and someone else was making a beeline for him shouting "Its the wizard! Its the wizard!" lol plus I'd already had quite a few drinks and just smoked 1/2 a joint(which I got off some homeless fella for swapping my flag lol) so I doubt I would have made much sense :)

Lastly, Joe Rogan show was great! I just wish I wasn't feeling so hungover that night. For support he had Joey Diaz and another fella I hadn't heard of before called Jim Norton who were both hilarious. I couldn't find anywhere before the show(or the Thursday night) that was showing the TUF(FN) fights.

EDIT - So who's up for 197? LOL NNNOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooo I said earlier in this post IF I go back! I need to cancel my credit card before I do something awesome :D

Revolut was perfect for me, much better rates than Caxton. Did fail to work in maybe one restaurant but that wasn't too bad.

Excalibur was perfect as well, did the twenty dollar trick and got upgraded to a strip view and bigger room.

Food and bars in Excalibur aren't a great selection but location is great.

Went to TUF, met Cerrone and got a photo, nice guy. Seen nick diaz and smiling Sam Alvey was beside me in a queue. Met John Kavanagh on the Monday in queue for Gordon Ramseys Burgr.

Weigh in was unreal, way better than I expected. Only bad experience I had was downtown when I tried to go to a cocktail bar and some sketchy people hovering on a corner decided to follow my girlfriend and I down a quiet street. Not sure what they wanted but thankfully they just left us alone.

The actual fight night was great, was slightly disappointed with the fights but at the same time some of them were awesome. Really enjoyed weidman rockhold, wasn't surprised that so many fights ended up being slight duds, that happens a lot with big names.

Question to anyone who has gone over before for a McGregor fight: Is it worth staying in the MGM, given that the event is on there? As in, is there much benefit to staying there versus other hotels? I'm seeing that the Excalibur across the way from the MGM is far less expensive.

Almost tempted, but reality (and the gf) are saying no :pac:

Revolut worked a treat for me, such a handy thing for US travels.

Stayed in Luxor, didn't try the $20 trick in the end but our room was great anyway. Was about a 15min walk to the MGM through NYNY

Got a little confused on fight night and got the start time wrong, but made it to our seats just as the 2nd round of Faber v Saenz was starting so not too bad at all. We had P4 tickets and was delighted with our view tbh, MGM seemed like a great setup so I'm glad we didn't spunk another couple of hundred dollars each to sit slightly closer.

Managed to lose my phone/passport after the fight, didn't realise until the Sunday afternoon and after running around all the casinos checking lost and found I rang the embassy - was facing a trip to LA to get a new one sorted.. but thankfully got a call back a few hours later and it was in the MGM! My phone was also inexplicably handed in to the Luxor concierge too so luck was on my side :)

I stayed in Excallibur for the fight just gone. It's absolutely fine and would recommend it if money is an issue.

I stayed in the tower which is facing the NYNY hotel and it was renovated in the last year or two I think. Room was grand. Very comfy bed, large tv and bathroom. It's a 10 min walk from the 18th floor to MGM reception. I'd stay there over MGM given the prices anyway.

Food isn't great but there is a McDonald's on site which is handy after a feed of pints.

Have a ball, wish I was going again but can't justify going 3 times in a year!

I stayed in the Excalibur, it was grand but I still hated the walking. But I'm a lazy ****... It was about 10 minutes from my room to the front door of the MGM and then the arena is another 5-10 mins through the huge MGM. If you can afford it, just stay in the MGM. You will meet more fighters, be a part of all the goings on, be able to get to the arena and back in 3 minutes without going outside. There are also shops outside the front of the MGM on the strip that sell regular items at normal prices. You can get a 1.5L bottle of water there for under 2 dollars. (I bought 8 per day) A small bottle of water inside the MGM will cost you 4. For anyone staying north of the MGM, the monorail is decent for price and no traffic, the stop in the MGM is also near the arena.

Don't be fooled by thinking things are close in Vegas. The scale of everything is huge. you're always far from everywhere, and the dry air will hurt your soul.

The way my mind is working is that (in my lifetime) Mcgregor's the best fighter this island has had and what are the chances we'll have another as good or better? So I want to take advantage while he's on top.

You're lucky getting your passport and phone back!! I lost my headphones at the fight and was gutted enough at that(I only bought them week before lol) but in the mayhem after the fight I really should have put them in my pocket. Forgot to say in last nights post thanks to whoever recommended the radio for commentary, worth the $20 and I didn't loose or forget it so could get more use.

I think no matter where you would sit in the MGM you'd have a good view. I was in block 217(upper tier) and was in 1st row of the block, took this pic during pre lims

I have the MGM already booked with a free cancellation option until the end of February. Just want to make sure I can justify paying the extra to stay there. Based on your reply, I think I can so cheers for that!

I second this having been over there before on holiday (not for a fight). The strip is nearly 7km long and you feel every step in the Vegas heat. This is a good guide in terms of where all the hotels on the strip are: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Las_Vegas_Strip#Major_casino_locations

As a Vegas Virgin, reading this thread about what to do and what not to do is fantastic.
Booked flights and Mirage hotel for UFC197. Will definitely try the $20 check-in tip.

I know this is a pretty cheeky :p but would really appreciate if someone who used Fight Club for 194 and is not using their Presale code for 197 could PM the code to me.

    Cheers

I was there for 189 and 194 and I stayed in the Luxor both times and would happily do it again. The walks aren't bad at all. You can spend your entire day in the MGM and just sleep elsewhere. Lovely hotel of course but for me I'd choose the less expensive option. Excalibur to MGM walk is very short. Across a small bridge into NYNY and then 15 seconds later you're on the bridge connecting NYNY to the MGM.

I stayed in Excalibur for UFC 178 and MGM for UFC 189 and 194. Definitely recommend staying in MGM if it’s anyway close to your budget.

Aside from the better rooms and hotel amenities, the ability to quickly drop back to your room is so much better and you constantly run into fighters. I’m not sure if it was due to fighters staying in the same block of elevators as me but for 189 on nearly every trip to and from my room I ran into one of them.

194 is finally free view on fight pass. I haven't seen the full event since being in Vegas. Time to get myself comfortable for the next 3 hours!

Would anyone mind sharing how much the trip cost in total roughly? Including flights, hotel, ticket and most importantly the spenders while there?

Flight and hotel 700-1200 roughly. Cheapest ticket around 200. Spending money 400-700. About 1500 total minimum. Eating cheap, not drinking much and so on.

Flight and NYNY hotel for 4 nights Thursday checkin to Monday checkout - €850
Ticket - €275 inc. fees but prices are up for 197
Spending - Was on my own so $500 (not including the resort fees they charge you at check-in) was all I spent. The best part is I won $400 of that back on the morning I checked out within the space of 5 minutes on the blackjack table, won 3 hands in a row off my last $50 in cash, let the winnings ride every hand! :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,207 ✭✭✭maximoose

Flights & Hotel (5 nights in Luxor): €715
    Fight Ticket: €275
Spending Money: Loaded $900 onto Revolut card before going. I think I made ~$400 gambling, and came home with $280 remaining on the card.

If you're asking with the thought of possibly going to 197 then expect it to be more expensive. The flight hotel packages seem to be at least £100 more for the same hotel/nights. Apparently ticket prices are being increased for 197 also. When you're out there it all depends on yourself to cost. It can be very expensive if you drink solely in casinos and eat in restaurants or you can get away quite cheaply if you buy booze from shops on the strip & eat fast food

There are literally 100s of different flight combinations. Best route to fly? Ireland to Vegas! Doesn't matter how you get there because the excitement builds and builds. IMO book through expedia, flights, hotel all done in 1 package.

So finally heard back from ticketmaster customer services and you must have a US bank account to sell through their resale service

Has anyone got any ideas on other sites or options on how to sell a ticket for 197? I should ban going online late night at the weekends  I don't want to be running around Vegas trying to get rid of the ticket during fight week

Viagogo, Seatwave, Stubhub. I'm not sure which has best rates etc. Sorry.

Irish MMA supporters facebook group is here - https://www.facebook.com/groups/451997578316994/?fref=nf

Use the Fightclub forum if you have a premium account or use the free forum.

I sold mine outside the entrance to the arena at 194, but it was pretty annoying tbh. Security don't like you hovering and I think you have to be pretty subtle about it. I seen them ask people to move on.

  • Registered Users Posts: 796 ✭✭✭Deadst4r

    double post. broken boards.

ALSO - I know for a fact some people managed to get refunds on tickets for 194. They change their mind and contacted Ticketmaster. It is 'up to the venue/promoter' according to ticketmaster so I believe they contact them on your behalf and request a refund. They can accept or refuse. I would imagine they would accept as they can actually take your ticket and resell it at a premium price if the demand is there.

I'll check out those sites in the morning, thanks. I don't mind so much about rates but I would like to try and redeem a bit from what I spent on the drunken purchase :D FS though I changed this time & clicked the option to pick ticket up at venue so not sure if I can change that or if I'll have to wait to fight week.

I've replied back to ticketmaster so I'll be interested to see if they mention the refund option.

I wasn't paying attention at 194 to anyone selling tickets but just outside the arena after the weigh ins I heard someone shouting they had a ticket to sell and they were waving a piece of paper about. I didn't hang about to see if they sold it.

edit - actually I don't think I would take a refund for them to double(and then some) the price & sell on. I'd rather pass it onto another boardsie or someone from the FB group for face value.

I reckon you would get it sold at the arena easy enough. I meant it was a nightmare because like you mentioned, it was fight night and I was in holiday mode and couldn't be assed standing around/approaching people and trying to sell it. I got rid of it within 15-20 minutes I'd say.

Yeah exactly, I just want to arrive and enjoy myself rather than having a spare in the back of my mind. Did you recoup your money on it when you got rid?

This time I'm flying Dublin-Newark-LV so could end up some mid Atlantic wheeling and dealing :D I do get there on the Wed afternoon so few opportunities while I'm out there to sell(open work outs, weigh ins, etc)

Rogan's material was pretty much the same at both with him doing a Q&A at the end in July & none in Dec

Oh really :( Thats surprising because if you listen to either of their podcasts they constantly seem to be talking about the comedy stowa(as Joey says lol) and making out like they're trying new material all the time.

I was raging as I missed the start of Joey Diaz due to being stood in a horrendously slow queue waiting for a drink  What I seen I enjoyed though. I only found a few of his albums to download at the weekend(Its either you or the priest & Can eat pussy with asthma) but I've not gave them a listen yet.

What did you think of the other fella, Jim Norton, they had on? I'd never even heard of him but thought he was funny, very very edgy type comedy which maybe wouldn't suit everyone in Vegas :D

I've not heard who is supporting this time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 550 ✭✭✭Pulse8

It''s Diaz supporting again, saw it on Joe's Instagram

Norton was alright, surprisingly preferred him to Diaz, he replaced Anthony on Opie & Anthony about 18mths ago

Yeah for the most part I'd say it will prob be the same material, Diaz was on with Rogan on Xmas Eve & they spoke about the Dec 11th show & Rogan did say he "needed to work on some new material before playing there again" but I would imagine it'll be largely the same.
The way those guys work is they get together a decent 60 to 90 mins.....flog the arse out of it, then do a TV special or iTunes album release with it all & after that airs only do new stuff as everyone will already have seen/heard the material on the release.

The Comedy Store gigs would be different as they're much smaller audiences & it's where they go to try out new stuff, doing maybe 15-20 mins at a time to "work on their bits" as they constantly say

I dont use instagram, hadn't noticed anything on twitter but hopefully it'll be good, I've just went for the cheapest seats this time anyway. I think I listened to that Christmas eve show but dont remember them talking about it lol I know I listen to Joey's xmas eve podcast anyway. I think ROgan does a standup before every(or most) nights hes commentating? I seen him advertised for the night before 196 in the same theater.

Yeah I think most standups work in the same way that once somethings recorded they try not to use the material again. I went to see an Aussie called Jim Jeffries years ago, I had only seen a few clips on youtube of him before I got tickets but week before the gig I found a dvd to download then when I went to the gig he done about 80% of the dvd material because he it was from the same tour :D Still funny even though some of the punchlines were ruined.

Cool. What hotel did you decide on?

You don't need a ticket for weigh in but you can get in early(30mins) with a priority ticket which are only available to fight club members. Maybe if your super nice another kind boardsie who isn't going will send you a priority weigh in pass.

If you're looking 2 tickets, especially together, my advice is don't wait on picking them up here! Get on ticketmaster or some of the resale sites posted earlier. Theres been pretty much no talk from other members about who is going, which is a huge downfall from 194 as you can see how busy this thread was in the run up. I know theres been problems with baords but its been back a good few days now but this forum is still v.quiet.

Sounds like you got a good deal, I paid £630 Wed-Sun in excalibur. I'm on my own though so whole room cost on the 1 person.
I was on with ticketmaster earlier trying to(STILL) find out about selling my spare. They have loads of $450 seats, check the resale options too as you could find something cheaper or closer for same price.
I remember hearing MGM put on a viewing party for 194, but it was ticketed event that you had to pay to enter. I think the Irish bar across in the NYNY were advertising it(could have been after party) but you might have needed to pay too.
My advice would be if your going all that way, especially for the UFC, then make sure you get a ticket. I can't imagine how grim I would have felt sitting in MGM at 194 watching every other ****er go into the arena while I watched on a tv few 100 yards away.

We will see how it pans out heading without tickets and see what we can do when we get there.

Cheapest way to get to the strip from the airport?

Bell Trans shuttle bus. $11 for a return ticket to any strip hotel. You can book it on Expedia but there's probably many other ways too. Far cheaper than Uber.
