The "Tears in rain" final monologue IMHO is some of the best lines in cinema history. Remain on the same high level could be a very challenging task.

So the title for the sequel has been announced; it'll be called ... ... 'Blade Runner 2049'. So least that's the setting covered - 30 years after the first film.

I've shared my misgivings in the first page of this thread, and still maintain them, but I won't deny that trailer got me quite excited! Denis Villeneuve has quickly become a director to take seriously & his presence is at least a sign they're taking the sequel a little seriously. Villeneuve now also has the kudos and clout to (hopefully) not be brow-beaten into making concessions for the studio.

Is that supposed to be Mars? Is Earth turning into Mars? Is the writing on the windows of the 'Vintage Casino' Korean? I don't know languages from the area but I've seen that Korean seems to have more circular shapes like those in their.. Hanja is it?

It kinda answers the big question from the first film right? Looks like he's being hunted? That makes him a replicant right? Maybe? Is it a red herring? How is he still alive though, replicants ain't supposed to live long are they? Maybe he's different?

It looks ... evocative & moody. Which in of itself is the right speed for Blade Runner IMO, as part of the magic of the original was its undoubted tone & mood. There was a deep dreamlike state in that Los Angeles of 2019, so at least it looks like they're trying to bring a similar pulse & feel to the sequel. You know, going by a 1:50 minute teaser

The actual aesthetics & technicalities of the world have been cribbed & copied to death over the last 35 years, simply upping the scale was never going to work for that kind of film. I still don't think the story needs a sequel, but these first glances make me think they might yet make it work.

Wasn't the Sean Young replicant in the original supposed to have an unknown lifespan? That might not have been in all the versions though, I think it was in the one that got a cinema release with the Sam Spade type voice-over. So maybe he's a similar model. Or maybe he's not a replicant at all and is being hunted for some other reason.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. If Ford is a replicant, I'm out of this. The idea of an OAP robot is fcuking dumb on so many levels.

Other ideas i've thought about why he's out to meet Deckard included:
- Could be this new guy is just coming to seek his help like in the first film.
- Could be Deckard is protecting a replicant.

Oh and just now.. what if he's protecting a Human and yer man is a replicant hunting them down:eek:

According to reports, the second trailer for this will supposedly appear before "Alien: Covenant", so might get a more 'plotty' one that gives more detail of what to expect from this sequel.

Still maintaining a healthy scepticism for this, seems like the healthiest approach, despite the calibre of those involved & that enigmatically appealing first trailer.

Visually it looks very impressive, Villeneuve's fingerprints are all over it for sure (I imagine his 'Dune' adaptation will be equally arresting). I forgave Ghost in the Shell more than others I think, but I'd agree with Johnny Ultimate that the above trailer shows a steadier, smarter hand in growing a neon landscape that doesn't just rely on neon noise. This surely must be a film that simply demands a cinematic experience & location.

That said, the actual script looks ... suspiciously amped compared with its progenitor. I hope the trailer's just cutting a particularly action-heavy promotion, because when all's said & done, Blade Runner 1982 was a lazy, dreamy noir drama & not an action adventure (heck, the big finale featured our hero basically trying to run away from the fight).

To the opposite of the previous poster I think the trailer looks very light on action (a couple of quick shots at the end but the trailer for the most part is dialogue heavy) and no idea given of interesting android villains like the first movie. I'm skeptical.
