Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Running from 8th - 15th Apr. All the players enter the first qualifying round and all have to win 3 matches to make the Crucible. Doherty faces Reanne Evans, he will be under a bit of pressure, it would be embarrassing to loose to a woman. Steve Davis faces Jamie Cope and Jimmy White takes on James Wattana.

9 -7 Ken. Should have been 8 p-8. Evans had a 57 point lead with the reds left not very pottable.

Fair play to Ken though for grinding her down.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,421 ✭✭✭major bill

Safety play let her down in that last frame

Chance gone can see Ken taking this frame easily

She did seem to turn away in disgust at that black must have been very frustrating. I was glad she didn't lose it after she fouled the while into the middle that would have been a horrible way to go out.

    Ken for the worlds

Shockingly poor match. As much I would love Ken to qualify, he won't.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,572 ✭✭✭Black Menorca

Steve Davis is holding his own against Jamie Cope so far. 5-5.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,572 ✭✭✭Black Menorca

I love watching these qualifiers. Its like walking into your local club. The dull lighting, no annoying John Virgo of Joe Johnston stating the obvious and somehow the players seem a little more mortal.

Steve just banged in a 96 break to go 7-5 up.

Steve just banged in a 96 break to go 7-5 up.
He ended up winning a nail biting final frame decider. Cope was a point ahead when he missed the final pink. Davis ended up potting a long pink and a tricky black to seal victory. I was delighted for him. He got a rotten kick on what was practically frame ball earlier on in the frame. Tension was unreal.

Doherty leads Lee Walker 5-3 going into today's second session. Come on Ken!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭Glenman

Davis more or less out, 8-1 behind. Jimmy White must be playing good stuff, he is 7-2 ahead going into the second session of his match. Ken has won the opening frame of his session to go 6-3 ahead. Fergal O'Brien is 6-5 ahead. Joe Swail is up against it now, 7-4 down to Dominic Dale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭Glenman

Great day for the Irish yesterday in the World Qualfiers with Doherty, O'Brien and Swail all winning. Swail is great at the comebacks at the World Championship and yesterday was another fine performance winning the last 5 frames to pip Dominic Dale 10-9.
    Final qualifying round is as follows;
    Ken Doherty v Mark Davis
    Fergal O'Brien v Kurt Maflin
Joe Swail v Matthew Stevens (repeat of the semi final from the year 2000)

White lost to Selt last night 10-8, after being 7-2 ahead. Gave up with 44 behind with 43 left in the final frame!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭Glenman

Bad start from Ken loosing the first 3 frames but he recovered the situation a little to win the last frame before the interval. He will need at least draw the upcoming mini-session 2-2 to have any chance this evening.
Swail lost the first 2 frames to Stevens but goes in at the interval 2-2

Swail is doing well, 5-4 down to Stevens. Doherty is gone, 8-1 down after first session

Fergal O'Brien 6-3 up against Kurt Maflin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭Glenman

And so the comeback is on, Ken takes the first frame to go 8-2! Swail is now 6-4 behind. O'Brien has best chance of making the Crucible with his 6-3 lead.
