Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Blood blister on lower lip

Hi, I'm new to boards and I signed up but I couldn't sign in for this thread for some reason........

Anyway, I have had a blood blister on my lip for over a year now and I am starting to get really sick of it. It is like a little hard red dot on my lower lip that I feels huge when I press my tongue against it and it is clearly visible because people have remarked about it before.

I asked two different doctors about it and they have both said that it is harmless and to leave it alone, one actually mention surgery where the blister is removed and I will be left with a little crater like scar (which I don't want either!). I have also pierced it with a pin a few time and although it didn't bleed straight away the next morning it bleed ALOT and I thought it was going to get rid of it but alas it is still the same as it always was.

I was just wondering has anybody got any experience of these blood blisters and do you know of any remedies to get rid of the bloody things (pun intended!) ???

Go back to your doctor and explain how this is impacting you.

Please don't stick pins in yourself - have it treated properly, or leave it alone.

    Just my tuppence

We'll I forked out €120 on doctors already so I was more interested to hear from people who actually had a blood blister on there lip and got rid of it either through home remedies or by other means.

Doesn't sound like there's gonna be anything along those lines, otherwise one of the doctors would have said. Home remedies are generally placebos and I'd not sure a placebo could work for something like this. Keep the blister or have a scar.

This does seem like something that might qualify for a more educated opinion than can be found on this BBS. Unless I am reading your post wrong it seems highly unlikely that you could have unintentionally "bit" yourself, at least not without knowing it. Ask a doctor and let us know what is said.

Sores in the mouth (bites, pizza burns) tend to heal pretty fast all by themselves. Something lasting 6 weeks is either more serious or is being irratated by something else. Could you be playing with too much pressure on the upper lip, especially on high register stuff?

Doctors (in my personal experience) will deal with the symptom but not necessarily the cause. Let them look at the problem and suggest a couse of action to deal with it. Then see if you can discern a probable cause for the condition. Would be interested to know what happens.

i had a blood blister on my top lip for over a year not causing me any problem, i decided to speak to my gp who refered me to the hospital. there is a medical term for this complaint, ( sorry the name escapes me ) the bleeding comes from behind the blister so pricking with a pin will not fix it. the hospital uses a laser to get rid of the blister which worked but i am left with scar tissue, so i have swopped a red mark for a white one, i am now on my way to the hospital to decide whether to have the scar tissue removed, i think i might leave well alone as i might end up with worse than i have now.best of luck with your cure.

One of the terms is called a "venice lake" I have gotten mine from the sun--originally it was a blood blister--I had it cut out and lasered, but it always came back and now it is probably twice the size of what I started with over 20 years ago. It is annoying and obvious, but I have no pain with it. I did see a plastic surgeon and he basically told me to leave it alone, because there is no guarantee that even with surgery it won't come back again. It also can start to make you look disfigured from the surgery.
