Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I wouldn't worry about having a high specs laptop you'll get away with pretty much anything once it can run what ever program we will be using to compile the programmes we write.

In fact you'll get on just fine with out one, I've done a simaler course before but dropped and I've done a plc in programming and web development so I have a good idea of what lies ahead

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 806 ✭✭✭Casshern88

Also any one who is in 2nd year of this course have a 1st year time table they could post up? Would be good to get a idea of what hours we will be in

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,302 ✭✭✭✭stephenjmcd

Got the pack this morning , but had no sticker saying what group I'm in or no username or pin to register online , anyone get the same ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,721 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

My booklet had the sticker on it, in group 2.

    No login details though....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭RobTheLad

Does anyone know if we need a laptop for the course? I know they have computers and the computers are adequate but id rather work from my laptop as I'm pretty used to that already.

    Thanks,

    Daspendy

I've just finished this course in May, and to be honest, you don't particularly need an outstanding laptop spec wise. I thought before I started 4 years ago,I would be bringing my laptop in every day, but almost every lecture you have is in one of the computer labs, so you will probably end up just using the the college pc's , rather than lugging your laptop in everyday.

A decent dual core processor, and about 4GB ram is more than enough for anything your going to do for the first 2 years of so.

yes i am interested in the area and want to expand what i know about computers, coupled with nci's high employment rate i feel its for me. spoke to a nci rep who said to me that people with no knowledge of computers go in and come out with top jobs.
yes they may have "no knowledge" but they do have aptitude.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,721 ✭✭✭✭Squidgy Black

You'll definitely need an aptitude for computing, otherwise it'll be a long struggle for 4 years. Unless you have an interest in computers and want to learn programming and computer architecture, then it'll be boring, like learning a language you don't really want to use. There's high employment, but you have to be good at it and want to do it.

I want to do it and am always willing to learn more , I think the course will be quite interesting

Unless they're willing to open up another place in the course, I'd imagine not.

110 a week during the semester, then 140 during the summer. Fairly cheap considering it's smack in the middle of the IFSC. Right behind Sheriffer though....

Aye the price is very generous for such a nice location. However I heard you had to pay the full amount on the one go so maybe I was wrong.

Yeah 2 installments of 1800 or something, but I suppose if you were doing it for a year you'd probably be looking at a credit union loan.

The joys of living 15 minutes away on a bike ;)

You all will absolutely HATE Business modules, that's pretty much the only modules I disliked over past 2 years so far, well in Year 2, Semester 2 Project Management is more or less alright, but the rest will be ****, and I bet all of you will have around 15% attendance to them then closing to exams you will be saying: "I sweat to gawd, if I pass this I will attend every single class and study well" but then when new semester begins, you just leg it to the pub opposite to college :D
