    Hey All,

Friend of mine asked me to have a look at his car he just bought, the guy he bought it off said the High Beams never worked while he had it.

I'd a look under the bonnet and there's an aftermarket relay powering both Dipped Beams. The switch + & ground - for the relay is coming from an existing factory cable behind the light.

It's my understanding that the lights in the car are Negative Wired, ie the negative of whichever beam in not needed gets broken.

My question is, for those of you who can still follow me, how does the light know what negative is broken when all I can see is a 2 core cable that's now feeding this relay?

Not sure I understand you. But it is possible if the bulb is a H4 that it was setup possibly incorrectly for an after market HID kit with the use of the relay to move a device in the bulb to act like a high beam using the same bulb. You might want to post a pic of the setup.

Doesn't the car have just the one bulb, H4, for both high and low beams?
I'd look into removing the extra relay and just wire them back as normal again.
