Okay I'm raising this from a response I saw from Joey the Lips where he wasn't for having wet rooms upstairs.

The OH is from one of the Nordic countries who all have wet rooms, houses, apartments, etc.

I still haven't done anything with the bathroom since I got the house so it's a blank canvas at the minute and I'm seeing what options I have with a wet room being the front runner.

Are wet rooms a realistic option in an Irish house in an upstairs bathroom?

My brother did one of these a few years ago. He lined the walls and floor of the wet room with fibre glass before tiling over it. He hasn't had any problems. Installing the fibre glass is very messy but it's definitely a good job when it's finished.

I am doing one at the moment, Schluter membrane and additional paint on tanking as well, can't be too careful upstairs.

I appreciate the wall of fame.....I cannot remember what i said on the subject and tbh I am to lazy to look back:P

But my view on wet rooms upstairs is. NO WAY!

    Why

    1. They are always done cheaply.
    2. Most tradesmen(Sorry guys) do not know enough about them
    3. The cause to much damage
    4. The shower screens are as dear as the wet room.

However if you plan them carefully. Use correct jointing methods and lastly get someone good to do it. They will work. This is how I done disabled bathrooms in "Rich" houses

Cheers guys. It won't be getting done any time soon as I would want it done properly, i.e. not cheaply so it will take me time to get the money in order but if they work with proper installation then it's still an option for me.
    Thanks.

Bear in mind one comment which a supplier of tanking materials said to me - "water will always find a way through". There will be people here more qualified than me who can tell you more about that.

pardon my ignorance ,but dont 'disabled' bathrooms have to be on the ground floor ,thats what the building regs state

wet rooms are easy if you know how ,hard if you dont -never leave it all to a plumber ,there are specialised guys out there to do the job -its a multi skilled task

No they dont. They just have to be of certain size and the bathrooms just have to have certain fittings if possible,

Hi, I am a professional wetroom installer. Many tradesmen do not know wat there at but some like me do so make sure u research who does it. U can put wetrooms upstairs as long as u follow correct methods. I use ready made tray (marmox.com), tank the shower area then tile over.

I had a wetroom done last year, love it to be honest. I got a mosaic type tile on floor which had to be sealed with a clear sealer....

Does this sealing business have to be done yearly or is it a one off thing?

I'm thinking of putting a wet room in my apartment, its a top floor with concrete floors. It seems that it will be necessary to cut a small channel in the floor to allow the drain to be installed. Has anyone had any experience with work like this?

    HS.
