Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

So in lectures how do you guys take notes? Are laptops widely used, or do students stick to the good ol' pen and paper?

Definitely take notes in lectures. I'd say 99.99% use pen and paper. Laptops are distracting for those sitting behind you I find! You can always type up your notes later on if you feel the need.

Definately the tried and trusted pen and paper. One girl in my class was using her laptop in a lecture and the lecturer made an example of her. In his defence she was reading trashy gossip websites but still you get my point

Pen and paper all the way. Take LOTS of notes, you'll need them.:)

Quite a few of us record the lectures, too, so if you have an MP3, it'll be worth it.

Pen and paper is the only way to go really. Laptops are far too annoying for everyone concerned.
Make sure you get the lecturers permission before you record any lectures as there are legal and copyright issues involved.

Everyone in my class uses pen and paper. I have only ever seen one guy with a laptop in class and he was playing Pro Evo.

But then, I'm in maths, it would be horrible to try and type up notes in maths, it would take forever

Laptops should be banned from lecture halls. I have only ever once seen a person actually typing in notes. The majority of time people are just browsing the internet, downloading music (or porn) or playing silly games like Sims. They are awfully distracting for people sitting around the person with the laptop. Why come into a lecture in the first place if you're only going to play games on the laptop?!

Always use a pen and paper. Non-stop writing for the lecture.
