Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I can get a MacBook Pro for 870 euro on adverts it's a late 2014 model.. Is there any point in buying the 2015 model and spending another 600 euro or has there been no huge improvements?

You can save 200 euro if you buy refurbished from Apple, same insurance and quality.

In case something does go wrong, which I haven't heard happening, you can always return it before 14 days.

If you buy new then you get 6 years warranty through irish consumer law as long as you have proof of purchase

I'm not sure if you are talking about the 13 inch or 15 inch MBP.

I bought a refurbished 13" MBP 2015 two weeks back, returned it and got a new one (8GB, 256 SSD, i5 2.7 Intel graphics 6100). I returned the refurbished because it had a minor issue with the trackpad and there was a visible scratch on the front cover, which i couldn't simply live with for a small price difference.

I haven't used a MBP2014 so won't be able to comment on the difference with the MBP 2015. Performance wise its good i think, but being an i5 processor i can really see some difference in the time it take to load web pages (I used a laptop with an i7 before)
    - This could not be due to internet speed, since i get 400kbps to 900kbps download speed. So perhaps because of it being a dual core processor compared to the quad core on the i7.

    - or perhaps because its an i5 processor.

The graphics card (Intel graphics 6100) is definitely one of the better ones compared to whats in the Macbook Air or previous Macbooks 13". To test it out a bit i played Counter strike 1.6 on the refurbished one i got earlier, and it was pretty good, had no issues at all. I didn't download any big game as i don't have the data to download huge games (I'm tethering 3G from my phone).
Also testing with games wouldn't be the only way to test the graphics performance.

I don't use a lot of heavy applications. I just have a number of webpages opened in Safari and pdfs opened, and so far its quite smooth. So far the system hasn't got stuck or anything.

The force touch trackpad is nice. What i liked about it is you can click anywhere on the trackpad, whereas with previous models you would need to click on the top part of the trackpad. I also liked the two finger scrolling. There is also a double click feature for checking a link before opening the actual webpage. I'm personally not a huge fan of this and have rarely used it so far.

Speakers are quite bad. I've put it on max volume and its still not that great. Its no where compared to the speakers i had on my previous laptop (Dell studio). But it will for now i guess.

Regarding the battery, I feel the battery on the refurbished was better than the one i have now. It seems to be draining a bit faster for basic use. The retina screen is great for reading and being a 13" laptop its quite handy.

One of the main reasons i got this is so that i could partition the disk and install Windows as well (through bootcamp).

I still have quite a bit to get used to on Mac OS. There are definitely some things i don't like coming from windows OS. I definitely think its quite expensive. I've paid €1575 for this with a students discount and may get the applecare later on for €175. So €1750 for a laptop i think is definitely a bit too much especially since my use is mostly basic stuff and not photo, video or music editing. However, i wanted to get a macbook given that the other laptops in 13" category did not have great specs. I hope it lasts me a while.

I hope that answers some part of your question. Good Luck!

I had my 2007 Macbook pro from new, lasted me up until december just gone when it finally crapped itself. And i used it the same as you really. so it should last.
