Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Germany announces strong climate measures to meet 2020 target

    I don't think anyone has posted this yet but last week, the German government announced additional measures to ensure it meets its 2020 climate target of 40% (based on 1990 levels).     The move focusses on efficiency but will also require some changes in the generation side. In essence, it will mean the country shutting down the equivalent of eight coal power plants.

    There's a lot of misinformation on this forum about the dynamics of coal in the German market. The latest figures show that whole coal consumption in Europe went up in 2011 and 2012, the first figures for last year are heading in the right direction. Germany is likely experiencing a similar trend:
