Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone else watching this? Should be a good laugh.
This Sunday World Cup legends and top celebrities will go head to head in an 'England versus the Rest of the World' football match as Soccer Aid 2008 returns to ITV1.

This year's event, in aid of UNICEF and its partners will take place at Wembley Stadium where the crowd will be treated to a unique experience to see football legends take to the pitch alongside their celebrity counterparts.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has stepped up to the challenge of managing the England squad which includes the likes of son Jamie Redknapp, Alan Shearer, Ben Shepard, Gareth Gates, Jamie Theakston, and Craid David.

For the Rest of the World, Legendry Scott, Kenny Dalglish with take charge of a squad including cricket legend Brian Lara, Figo,Paolo Di Canio, Alastair Campbell, Westlife's Nicky Byrne, Patrick Kielty, no other between the stick then Peter Schmeichel and Gordon Ramsey returning again to wear the skippers arm band.

They left out the main man - Romario's playing!

    Any use?
Put off by the last one tbh, the England team "Celebrities" took it well serious and under the orders of Venables kicked the legs of the ROW legends, never mind half of them had dodgy ankles knees and it was for charity
I remember the changing rooms, at half time
England "WE CAN WIN THIS" U MARK HIM etc
ROW: Lads dont know what is wrong with that lot, this is supposed to be fun for charity
TV crowd were all into the England can win, then when it cut back after the ROW changing room they all looked well embarrased:D

    im watching it....

one of the best lines ever
Commentator: ' Figo, running at Craig David' !!

Some of them look to be taking it quite seriously. Gordon Ramsay went off injured and looked really unhappy. He was playing for the World XI though.

A lot of faces from the past. Teddy Sheringham is another name playing. Jaap Stam as well. David Seaman is in goal for England and he has short hair and he's clean shaven. Looks very strange. :D

Watching it, it's pretty enjoyable. :)

Best players of the "legends" are Shearer and Sheringham, that's no suprise but some of the celebrities are pretty decent. Gordon Ramsey had a great tough tackle but he's gotten injured afaik.
    He looked distraught.
Shocking miss from Romario, don't know how it managed it.

most of the non footballers and celebs used to play to quite a high standard afaik

ramsay used to be on the books at rangers for example

The guy who played Isaac in Heroes is playing. Anyone know if he's got a football background?

Edit: According to Wikipedia he was a semi-professional.

True, I read Ramsey's autobiography, it's an excellent read! Tells about his career, he only played two games as I remember.

I knew Nicky Byrne was a youth player for Leeds, not sure about the rest....

    Aye some wierd commentating alright:

"Alan Shearer tackeled by a Blue Peter presenter", quickly followed by "Paolo DiCanio back defending, the world is gone mad"

    :D

' A goal for the ex-Sex and the City actor.' :D

Also, Seaman must've been having flashbacks from that Ronaldinho free kick for that goal.

    HT 2-2

What is it with David Seaman and lobbed goals? :)

shearers celebration hasnt changed a bit anyway! 2nd half should be good- the 2 teams have to have their celeb keeper in goal.
surely there should be efforts from 40 yards out!!

Thy Rest of the World have Peter Schmeichel as their goalkeeping coach and they didn't put him on their team?

Ha Theakston and Kielty in goal now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,675 ✭✭✭genericgoon

Noooooooooooooooooo. They took off Craig David.

Although Gareth Gates is now playing.

Di Canio makes it look easy.

    More weird commentary....

"Gareth Gates having a go at Alan Shearer, telling him to keep his head down, hit the target."

tim lovejoy on the sidelines doing reports. legend.
hope this goes to penaltys for da craic!!

Did you see Englands 4th goal? I think Patrick Kielty should stick to what he's good at ..... whatever that is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Alastair Campbell is so slow he makes Paul McShane look like Usain Bolt.

Final score England win it 4-3.

    Was good fun.

i noticed how none of the irish boys swapped english jerseys:D

Schmeichel was supposed to be in the team instead of Tafarel but he has a back injury so couldn't play.

At least both celebrity keepers were equally rubbish!!

The other guy made a good save from a Romario free-kick.

Nicky Byrne had a smashing game. He was with Leeds in his youth but that was as a goalkeeper. He played in central midfield last night and played a great game.
