Anyone here own the new 1.4TSI 120bhp (NOT the more powerful engines) Golf or Passat, interested in hearing your thoughts. Performance, economy? Or any experience of the DSG box in the Golf?

    Thanks.

I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

We've had a couple of the Touran 1.4Tsi 140ps models around with the DSG gearbox. Used one of them as a runaround quite a lot (had a full tank of fuel when it came back). Proper little rocket when you stick it in sport mode and bury the foot. Can't imagine the 120ps version would be that much worse, although there is no supercharger to help low down the reg range.

One of the Touran's did have to go back to VW to have the DSG box rebuilt due to a constant whining, and I'm sure there was a bit of whine of the other one after I'd given a good run.

I'm mostly driving an A4 with the 1.4TFSI engine in 125BHP spec at the moment. I think it's a fantastic engine - it really suits the car, nice and torque-y.
I've got good experience with the DSG/S-Tronic too - brilliant gearbox, lightning quick.

I'm sure the two of them will complement eachother and it'll be a great car to drive.

    Buy it! :)

    Hi folks,

I've just ordered a VW Golf GT 122bhp with the 7-speed DSG box and am looking forward to it.

Given the fact that the DSG is probably closer to a manual transmission than most automatics, I'm wondering how the standard considerations for driving an automatic safely and with sympathy for the mechanics, differs with DSG.

For example, when stopped in traffic for more than a minute, what are you supposed to do? Do you keep your foot on the brake and annoy the driver behind, or do you apply the handbrake and slip the shifter into neutral, much as you would do on a manual. Anyone known, what's the VW recommended technique?

RedorDead is correcting a typo that AudiChris made. The 14.TFSI engine is availablein the Audi A3 but not the Audi A4.

Ah, okay. That's what I get for awakening a dormant thread :D.

If anyone has any wisdom to share of driving a DSG properly I'd love to hear them.
