George Clooney's 'Catch-22' Lands at Hulu With Series Pickup

The novel is set in Italy during World War II and tells the story of Yossarian, a U.S. Air Force bombardier trying to fulfill his service requirements so he can go home. The novel's title refers to the paradox of requirements where airmen who are deemed mentally unfit to fly are not obligated to do so, but anyone who applies to stop flying is deemed sane enough to fly.

Clooney and his Smokehouse Pictures producing partner Grant Heslov (Good Night, and Good Luck, Argo, The Ides of March) will direct and executive produce. Davies and Michod, along with Anonymous Content's Brown and Golin, are also on board as exec producers.

Catch-22 will mark Clooney's return to the small screen following his Emmy-nominated turn on NBC's ER. His TV credits also include Memphis Beat, Roseanne, Sisters and The Facts of Life.

Hugh Laurie, coming off a two-season starring turn on Hulu’s Chance, is reuniting with the streaming platform for a co-starring role in Catch-22, Hulu’s high-profile limited series co-starring and directed by George Clooney.

Set in Italy during World War II, Catch-22 is the story of the incomparable, artful dodger Yossarian (Christopher Abbott), a bombardier for the U.S. Air Force, who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy, but rather his own army which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to avoid his military assignments, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22, a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule which specifies that a concern for one’s own safety in the face of dangers which are real and immediate is the process of a rational mind; a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but a request to be removed from duty is evidence of sanity and therefore makes him ineligible to be relieved from duty.

Clooney plays Colonel Cathcart and will direct the series

Kenneth Branagh will star in, and produce, “A Gentleman in Moscow,” the TV adaptation of Amor Towles’ novel.

Entertainment One will produce and Tom Harper (“Peaky Blinders”) will direct the series, which is set in Russia, starts in the 1920s and spans 30 years. It tells the story of a man ordered to spend the rest of his life inside a luxury hotel. Branagh will play the lead, Count Alexander Rostov.

“Ken is a world class talent celebrated for portraying captivating and layered characters, and Tom is a master at crafting gripping and thought-provoking television,” said Mark Gordon, eOne’s president and chief content officer, film, television, and digital.

Branagh and Gordon recently worked together on the “Murder on the Orient Express” feature film, and have also worked together on “Warm Springs” for HBO and Disney’s “Swing Kids.”

Harper will produce the series, alongside Xavier Marchand of Moonriver Content. “’A Gentleman in Moscow’ is a life-affirming book full of humor and charm that brings together the profound, the political and the personal,” Harper said. “I am thrilled to be working with Ken, whose masterful talent will allow us to bring this extraordinary story to life

AMC has officially ordered the supernatural horror drama “NOS4A2” to series.

The show, based on the novel of the same name by Joe Hill, follows Vic McQueen, a young, working class artist who discovers she has a supernatural ability to track the seemingly immortal Charlie Manx. Manx feeds off the souls of children, then deposits what remains of them into Christmasland, a twisted Christmas Village of Manx’s imagination where every day is Christmas day and unhappiness is against the law. Vic must strive to defeat Manx and rescue his victims without losing her mind or falling victim to him herself.

It is currently slated to premiere on AMC in 2019 with a 10-episode first season. Hill will serve as an executive producer. Jami O’Brien, who previously worked on AMC shows “Fear the Walking Dead” and “Hell on Wheels,” created the show for television and will serve as showrunner. Lauren Corrao, co-president of Michael Eisner’s Tornante Television, will also executive produce. The series is produced by AMC Studios in association with Tornante Television. The show will be distributed internationally by AMC Studios.

”Treadstone”

The project explores the origin story and present-day actions of a CIA black ops program known as Treadstone, a covert operation that uses behavior modification protocol to turn its agents into nearly unstoppable superhuman assassins. Jason Bourne, the central character in Universal Pictures’ “Bourne” film franchise, was a product of the program. The series follows new sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously “awakened” to resume their deadly missions. “Heroes” creator Tim Kring serves as the writer and executive producer.

“Briarpatch”

Based on the Ross Thomas novel of the same name, the series follows Allegra Dill, a dogged investigator returning to her border-town Texas home after her sister is murdered by a car bomb. What begins as a search for a killer turns into a fight to bring the corrupt hometown Allegra thought she left behind to its knees. Andy Greenwald serves as writer and executive producer, with “Mr. Robot” creator Sam Esmail also executive producing through his production company, Esmail Corp. A

“Dare Me”

Based on the novel of the same name by Megan Abbott, the series dives into the cutthroat world of competitive high school cheerleading in a small Midwestern town through the eyes of two best friends after a new coach arrives to bring their team to prominence. Abbott serves as writer and executive producer along with Gina Fattore.

“Erase”

Denis Leary co-created and will star in this dark comedy as Donal O’Neal, a dirty ex-cop who decides to do the right thing and bring down his complicit superior officers. But his best weapon in this battle, a photographic memory, is suddenly compromised by symptoms of early-onset Alzheimer’s. Donal must now race against time to repair the damage he’s done to his estranged family while trying to avoid being killed by his enemies.

Kyle Chandler has been tapped as a lead opposite Christopher Abbott in Catch-22, Hulu’s high-profile limited series co-directed and executive produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov. Chandler will play Colonel Cathart, the role Clooney was originally slated to take on. Clooney will now play the supporting part of Scheisskopf, which would give him more time to focus on his directing and producing duties.

RTÉ2 will be the first broadcaster in Europe to air the second series of acclaimed drama The Handmaid's Tale.
The much-anticipated second season will premiere on RTÉ2 on Thursday April 26 at 10.35pm, with live streaming and on-demand availability through RTÉ Player.

Season two of The Handmaid's Tale premieres in the US on Hulu on April 25 and RTÉ2 will show it the following day. Season one, which is currently airing on RTÉ2 on Monday nights, was the winner of eight Emmys and two Golden Globes.
