Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Nick Dougherty had a 12 on the par 4 18th at Carnoustie. He'll never be back playing top level golf again.

Cant believe he didnt pick it up :pac:

Must be tough to have your career just drop off a cliff like that though.

The big bonus is that plonker Bill murray isn't playing

Shane Warne shot a 71 around St. Andrews. Some shooting

Tim Henman shot 66 there a couple of years ago

Big improvement by the Irish golfers today. All but one of them improved on yesterday's score and in aggregate they improved by 40 shots, with both McGrane and Harrington knocking 10 shots off yesterday's score.

Let's hope for another good day tomorrow.

The scoring at the Dunhill Links is just ridiculous.

At the moment the people on 7 under won't make the cut!

That would be awful for someone like Simon Thornton who is on -7 as I write this and he is staring a cut in the face.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭sydneybound

The old lady has been stripped naked this week!! The conditions may have been favourable but the course set up should have been tougher, the winner will be between -25 to -28 which is too easy.

You're forgetting two things though, it's a cut after 3 rounds and more importantly the courses are set up for handicapped amateurs.

I think the second part of that is the key point. Combine that with the relatively benign weather and the birdie fest is somewhat unsurprising.

A shame both Thornthon and McGrane missed the cut after a couple of decent rounds on -8 & -7. Worrying for Peter Lawrie another miss cut and poor old Higgins couldnt follow up on last week, hopefully he can pick up 30k at the Portugal Masters.

If Lowry doesn't win here would love to see Howell do it. Followed him at irish open and he was such a gent. Had such time for the spectators and seemed really genuine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,958 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

Why are scores so low lads. ?

Pins / Rough not set up for The Open. For Celebs.

I've seen more of Hugh Grant than Shane Lowry - (**** Sake)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,262 ✭✭✭big_drive

Weather has been good last few days. Some of these links play much handier without the wind, etc. Also as you mentioned pin positions have been generous to accommodate the amateurs

Here we go Shane last chance of glory on 18...

Regardless it's been good entertainment and great than an Irish man is near the top of a leaderboard.

    Up Offaly!

A bit too friendly a chat.

At 176th in the rankings & winless since 06, I'd say Howell could do with a few quid...

In 20 years on tour he has earned 12 million. Just in europe.
He had a job on the side when he had earned so much his golf dropped off.

I think that is a problem for some of them . Motivation is not as easy when you have earned a few million a couple of years in a row.

Garcia is the ultimate of that.

Anyway nice bloke, but there is no way he was on the breadline.

I think Howell is a good guy, and he's a really good commentator. Of course we won't have him in commentating in Dubai, which is a pity for us, especially if they decide to bring in Monty instead!

I thought it was great to see Uihlen and Howelly having a chat on their way up the 19th. Brilliant to see.

delighted for Howell - Absolutely love him as a player. Comes across as a real genuine chap

This is one of my favourite Howell moments :D

Yes, I am a massive Howell fanboi! :D

Speaking of McGinley, its good to see him back in a bit of form with 3 top 30s in his last 3 appearances. It seems the captaincy seems to be inspiring some good vibes on the course.

Really hope David Higgins has a good week in the Portugal Masters and gets another crack at the tour next year.

Peter Lawrie is already struggling, be good to see Higgins get a Top 15 here and would be good to see Shane continue his form.

Lawrie and Higgins are both off to Australia next week as well.

-2 after 13 holes, lets hope he can finish out this round and have a steady one tomorrow. Lots of Irish doing well at the moment. Early days but good to see.

And he missed the cut, must be very disappointed given he was defending...

Disappointing bogey at the 18th for David Higgins. Still, 69 was a decent enough round and a 67 or 68 tomorrow should see him secure his card for next season. It must have been distracting for him playing with someone who needed to birdie the last for a 59.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭sydneybound

Great round by Thornton, -6 for the day and now joint leader on -14. A putt for birdie coming up too.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,557 ✭✭✭sydneybound

Davig Higgins & Paul McGinley both -5 at T48. Still a very good day tomorrow could get Higgins a top 20 however that may be unlikely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,776 ✭✭✭abff

Another bogey on the 18th for David Higgins today. Level par 71 leaves him tied for 60th and likely to drop 2 or 3 places to 116 or 117 in the Race to Dubai rankings. He will move ahead of Lorenzo Gagli who missed the cut, but will be passed by Richard Green and will also be passed by Justin Walters (if he finishes top 10) and Simon Thornton (if he finishes top 5). His position relative to Mark Tullo is also going to be very close, with Tullo only a few hundred euro behind Higgins based on his current placing and could move slightly ahead if those around his score drop shots.

Likely scenario going into next week is Lawrie 115 and Higgins 116 with cards on offer for top 114 as there are four players in the top 110 who have played in 8 tournaments or less.

The language out of some of these pros is shocking at times, Sky commentator has had to apologise 3 or 4 times now. When you have a tournament with smaller crowds you can hear the F bombs being dropped all over the place.

Tiger woods has to be excused by the commentators at least 3 to 4 times every round!

    3/4 times every round.... exaggeration.

Also - I wonder if other payers were getting 80+% of the TV coverage would we start to realize that in fact, most of them do swear occasionally.

Shame Keopka blew up on the final stretch at the Frys Open, would have been a nice boost for the Euro Tour.

It might be the best way forward for the tour, getting some more up and coming talent like Uilheim & Keopka over to play.

Don't you have to play in 12 tournaments? Higgins now at 115 with Lawrie at 114, the four I would be excluding now based on events played would be:

Dawie Van Der Walt - Only 9 tournaments and not likely to qualify for enough of the RTD series
Carl Petterson - Only 8 tournaments, may qualify for WGC & BMW but may not make enough money to get Top 60
Tim Clark - Only 7 tournaments so not enough tournaments left for him
Jonas Blixt - Only 4 tournaments and not enough tournaments left for him
