Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have been asked by my sister to "keep an eye out" for a clean Megane or Peugeot 206 convertible over the next few months as she is interested in buying one.
I know very little about either of these models in respect of their overall reliability and even less regarding the operation of their retractable roofs.

I would appreciate any suggestions and advice on what to look out for with either car.

I expect that I will be looking at cars in the 2004-2006 era having regard to biudget.

    Thanks.

Make sure all the electric windows work on the Megan. The windows regs in the convertibles are different to the other models and ain't cheap. The Megane can have a glass roof and is a nice touch. Also more room in the Megane over the 206. Megane can be slightly under powered.

    Thanks Ronaneire.

In terms of overall reliability, is there much to choose between them ?

I have driven both for a few days each. The 206 was a bit more fun, but that wears off quickly. I suppose it would be a little more reliable, but I would still choose the megane, even though I HATE the key card. The car just felt better and had more space.

Given the Megane 2 poor reputation with electrics you would want to be nuts to consider one with a complicated folding roof. You also have to consider in the event you have trouble with the roof who is going to have the know how to fix it.

206 cc is smaller than a Megane, the 307 cc is more a direct rival to the Megane Convertible. Astra convertible is worth looking at too and less risky option imo.

Its reputation for electrics is completely misplaced. My Audi's have given far more electric troubles than any of our 3 Scenics. Ask a motor factors - they shift tons of electric part's for VW and Opel too.

If you don't like the (crappy, I agree) key card Meganes, go for the Mark 1 - which is peppier anyway. And simpler.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
