Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Flashed by gatso van

Yesterday morning I was traveling inbound on the N4 around Lucan and passed a Garda gatso van. I was in the inside lane doing no more than about 65 kph in a 80 kph zone. As I approached the van, I got flashed by a red light from the back window if the gatso van.

There was a car in the lane next to me and he was travelling at about the same speed as myself, so I don't see why the van would have flashed.

Does anybody know why it would have flashed?

Could the camera van be set wrong and i get a fine in the post?

They didn't follow, you are fine.

What you saw was probably just ambient light from the camera

you are fine...at least until an envelope drops through the door. Don't worry about it until it does.

How long does it take to issue them?

Garda Vans are not GATSO technology. Just FYI.

If you were flashed by one, it would a blinding white flash. However, most of these have been retired. They are now infrared and you can't see the flash, at least without it being somewhat dark or dusk / dawn. And even then, it would be an incredibly faint red or blue glow. All GoSafe are infrared.

You most likely saw a reflection or something else in either the lens of the camera or flash unit.

    TLDR; relax!

Anyone know where I can get some bright infrared LED's

No reason. Not related at all.

I noticed when passing gatso vans that the headlights reflect off part of the equipment giving the impression of a flash too.

You can see the IR flash, I was caught in Kildare, all I saw was a faint red flash.
Next minute an envelope came addressed to me!

How long were they processing it?

Quick question, Where you driving a car ?

I know that on the N11 they have two different speeds posted but only posted once at the beginning close to the M11 where the bus lane is 60KM/H and the 2 driving lanes are 80KM/H

I dont know if the N4 is set up like that (i never checked to be honest) or maybe the gatso was set up wrong

That was quick, I'd say the postman must have got a fine too.

AFAIK their system is set to shoot a photo to all the cars passing by, regardless the speed.

    Very unlikely.

Ok, so I'm starting to feel a bit better about it now. Maybe I wasn't got.

I'll let you know if any fine comes.

It will probably only take a week or two to get the fine, if one comes at all.
