Looking at the 1975 Kerry v Dublin All-Ireland on TG4, I noticed that one of the billboards advertises "Paddy Whisky" - does anyone know/remember whether this was the accepted spelling of whiskey at the time?

whisky is how the scots spell it. i think the irish distilers added the 'e' to make irish whiskey stand out.

I am aware of that. I had presumed that the whiskey/whisky split was established well before 1975, though.
