Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Acer v Dell

    Hi

I am looking out for a new laptop. Im not particularly bothered about High End Machines just something reasonable. I have found an Acer Laptop on laptopsdirect.ie and a fairly similar one with Dell where if I add the extra hard drive space they work out in or around the same price.
I have heard some complaints about Dells computer and I don't really know much about Acers' product.
Does anyone here have any opinion on which is better or are they much the same?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

Well for years Acer were utter sh!t but recently they seem to have stepped their game up a bit and are producing better laptops.
Appearance wise I'd take a Dell any day over an Acer...if the spec's and price are the same I guess it comes down to your personal taste.

Dell anyday. Look better and inside the parts are generaly high quality. Phone support is excellent.

I use an Acer for work, hasn't failed me once. I think it was €599, it's the 5051. Turion 64x 2.0GHz processor, Vista Basic, 1GB RAM (I installed another GB) and 120GB hard drive.

Surely the guy saying the phone support for Dell was great is joking right?

Never noticed until I read your reply, the bit written just above shamrock rovers looks very dell biased.
Then again perhaps he is a very satisfied customer>

I have been looking on ebay for the last hour. Some very good bargains there (then again maybe too good to be true). Does anyone here have any ebay shops/sellers that they would recommend?

Machines added every day , 24 hour auctions , trust me it'll be busy soon! Its Dell's offical ebay store. Some good bargains to be had *if* your patient as some people go ebay bidding crazy and pay way over the odds for machines.

    Thanks for your help majiktripp.
I promise now this is the last time I will bug you all with my questions.

    I found this http://www.pcwb.ie/catalogue/item/A0236458

Looks fairly good to me, although I have never heard of the site it is on.
    Are they reputable?

The site is owned by PC World, it's their business side of things. I think you need to be vat registered to buy something from there though.

Its just the dedicated business website of Pc World the actual Computer Store as far as I'm aware. MAchine isn't bad for the money , suppose you could claim the vat back on it too if its a business machine.
Just checked the website and it is indeed part of the Currys/Dixons/PC World group DSG.
