Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey, it's my Dad's birthday on Sunday and my siblings and I want to get him a laptop (he has never switched on a pc in his life). Therefore we wouldn't be looking for anything too high-tech. The cheapest price I can find for a brand new laptop is eur600. Does anyone know where I can get one cheaper?

See this thread here. About €400 which is pretty good. Make sure you get xp on it.

THanks a mill for that - very helpful. You say to make sure to get xp - is that better than vista? I'm presuming the latter is having teething difficulties - yeah?
    Thanks again.

No, it is more to do with the low-spec machine you are looking at. It simply wouldn't run Vista comfortably, whereas XP would.

Teething difficulties yes, but aside from that it would run like dog poo on a stick with the hardware in the two machines detailed in the other thread. Vista is a bit more demanding on the requirements of a pc/laptop running it more so than XP.

Yes this is what I meant. Xp will run a lot better on the spec in the thread I linked to. Vista is very resource hungry and so wouldn't run as smoothly.

Vista does have some teething problems but neither my sister or my mother have noticed any problems with it and they would be some of the least technologically knowledgeable people I would know.

Thank you so much for all this advice - it's brilliant. One more question... what RAM does it need to be for vista to work efficiently? 1GB? More?

    Again, thank you!

2Gb for it to work comfortably.

You might want a better processor too. I wouldn't run vista on a celeron/sempron processor.
