Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Could they not show a nice montage of puppys, kittys and bunnys instead of this interview?

The same questions and answers every year.

And we all sit here and say the same things every year! Makes you think...

RTE really needs to plug this Operation Transformation show........................ It gets no publicity
They should try putting it on John Murray two or three times a week.

She'll be a stunner when she drops the weight... It's nice that she's very appreciative of what her parents did for her, but I would argue (being the judgmental old curmudgeon that I am) that again they should have helped her to keep the weight off as she was growing up..

I lost 30 pounds since Jan 1 - thanks to The Paddy Power Plan.

It used to be a half-decent joke in the pre-Euro years :o

    Jesus.

    She probably 'technically' is.

    She's almost 13st. Probably about 5'6?

That'd put her in the overweight category. If she's a bit shorter, she'd be obese.

For my height, my BMI says I would weigh between 7st 10 - 10st 1

Unfortunately I weigh a lot more than that and it is going to be a struggle for me to get into the 'overweight' category, let alone the 'normal' one! I am NOT normal!!! :P

Also, I think because weight has become such a problem, we've almost become conditioned to see bigger as normal. I wouldn't look at her and think she's got much of a problem, but when you start looking at numbers.....

obesity is different for everyone. It is more to do with the impact of increased weight as opposed to how much you weigh. A 25 year old rugby player could weigh twice as mucgh as a non sporty person but not be obese as his weight isn't impacting on his health whereas the non sporty person can be classified as obese if his/her weight is impacting on their health/life expectancy

Do you remember when Brendan had the large woman on with her "Plus size Models"?

They were all more overweight than most of these guests.

I always found the BMI to be waaaay misleading...does not seem to take into account the body 'frame' of a person.

But also, the rugby player would have a high muscle capacity, whereas she doesn't. Her weight is largely made up of fat. A rugby person wouldn't.

The BMI categories aren't accurate for athletes.

See above. It's not accurate if you're athletic, but for the regular run of the mill person who isn't largely made up of muscle.....

    Spot on.

If you're a bodybuilder and have a body like a 'condom full of walnuts' like myself , you're automatically going to be put into the overweight category.

Good shout, Skid. (If I may channel my inner Matt Dawson for a minute).

This show would be only half an hour long every week if everone in Ireland was slim.

To be honest, I'd say they had battled with weight for so long that one day they just think 'Fcuk it' and try to be happy and confident with what they have! These people want to change and want to have a healthier life and body.

It can be really draining thinking daily, several times daily, about weight, what fits/doesn't fit, changing outfits a few times before you are happy with what you see etc. I have zero will power. I complain I complain I complain, and I wish for a size 12 wardrobe (!!!!) but I cannot stick to healthy eating. Maybe i've deeper rooted problems, I don't know.

I'll get off the stage now! :o

well this is my point!! obviously a rugby player can be obese also, I was only giving a general example of how an active person is less liable to be classified as obese.

Yeah I heard that on the radio during the week... But that exception, where the BMI does not distinguish between muscle and fat for rugby players, weightlifters etc etc.... However, I dont think that woman plays rugby...

Not really. Any athletic person KNOWS that the BMI calculations won't apply to them in the same way.

and for the rest of us Average Joes, what do I care about anyone else's measurements?!

Thinking (wrongly) that Tommy Bowe (:D) is overweight or obese doesn't change my figures!!!!!
