Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/video-irish-familys-shock-reaction-to-daughters-early-return-from-oz-29574182.html
After graduating from university last year, Laura McConville left Ireland – and her family – behind for an adventure of travel and work in Australia.

After a three month stint at farming in order gain a 2nd year visa, she booked a flight home for Christmas with the intention of heading back to Oz in January. Or so her family thought.

She got in touch with her brother Mark to organise a surprise homecoming.

After a lot of devious planning, they decided to tell their family that Mark was to bring up a new girlfriend for the family to meet. This meant the entire family would all be in the house at the same time.

This YouTube clip shows how the scenario unfolded and the shocked reactions of all the family, including some mildly inappropriate language.

    Really? This is news now???

Most people who go over to Aus on a working visa should never be allowed to travel outside Ireland, i would imagine she spend most of her time in Irish pubs and hanging with Irish people over there.
Gone for a over a year and coming back home to surprise her folks, god give me strength:rolleyes:

    From the article:
A man has been jailed after he admitted having sex with a goat.

Robert Newman, 23, assaulted the animal in a barn in Devizes, Wiltshire in April.

Newman, of Potterne Road, Devizes, initially denied the charge but later changed his plea.

Newman was jailed for six weeks for the attack, which North West Wiltshire Magistrates' Court heard had left the goat needing veterinary treatment.

At the time of the assault Newman was the subject of an eight week suspended sentence for a burglary in August last year.

TBH, it's no great step down from the latest non-event in the usual Z listers's lives they "report" on...

This is a paper that made me know who Gerald Keane and Lisa Murphy are and I've never once bought the damn thing...

Salisbury also had front page news about a woman tripping over a loose paving stone and getting a black eye. And a bag of gerbils 'left for dead' on the side of a motorway. And a shed break-in where the damnable deviant stole a strimmer, if memory serves.

I grew up in Salisbury and the 'non-news' on the front page of our local paper was always kind of a running joke.

It's touchy feely so some people will like it.

It's like those stories in US news outlets of soldiers making a surprise trip home to see wives/daughters/dogs etc. and recording the reactions

She wasn't exactly fighting a war though...

I don't see it displayed prominently on the front page www.independent.ie so probably not that big news.

It does mention how British boxer Billy Isaac (45), now in Cork, got his girlfriend Siobhan Ginty (23) to beat on a waitress after Billy wasn't served quickly enough.

Syria? DMCA takedown ruling in Massachusetts? German Vodafone bank account info compromised? Abolition of the Seanad?

Clearly the independent's view and my view of news greatly differ.
