Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

I have a Nestor Martin S23 and I was dissapointed with the heat output last year.
I tried different fuels but always a bit dissapointing.

I'm looking for someone to come out and look at the unit/install and give good/informed advice.

Does anyone know of any such specialists in Galway?

I see ads for installers but that doesn't mean they know what they're talking about!

Any first-hand experience would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Yes. Thats where I bought it - but we were left to our own devices as regards getting it installed.

I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of someone who knows what they're talking about when it comes to installing/running a stove.

Post a few pics of the installation, pipe work and hot press pipe work and maybe someone here can see if they can spot anything wrong.

You would be better off speaking to them first. From what I hear, they are pretty decent.

I have an S13 I got in Murphy's and I have no problems with it. I did find at the start that it wasn't lighting properly, due to my inexperience with stoves, and I wasn't getting good heat when I used wood. Are you lighting it properly? I wasn't and I found a good video on YouTube showing how to light it. Have you tried briquettes? We always got good heat from them when we tried them. One other thing, have you an external air supply? Mine does and I wonder if yours air intake is set correctly?

I hadn't considered that it might be down to how I'm lighting it. I'll admit I thought a fire was a fire. I'll have a look on YouTube. Thanks for the tip.

I was burning mostly Ash last year - using a firelog to start it. During the coldest times I ended up throwing on some coal as well.

I don't have an external air supply - though I could add one easily enough if it was worthwhile. Does it make much of a difference?

A fire lit is a fire lit! How you light it will have no bearing on the output of the stove once it gets going.
The issue will most likely be a stove issue or a ventilation issue or a flue issue.

That's what I thought myself, wrt lighting a fire, I've always had one in the house, and never had problems lighting one. But, I found with this stove, if you didn't get enough heat at the start before loading up logs, the logs wouldn't burn very well and we'd get no heat from the stove. The fire would just kinda trundle along. At one stage we thought we had a dud of a stove. I've since heard people complaining about the controls on the Nestor Martin being difficult. The only reason I asked about external air was to see if the pipe was blocked. There it's no need for you to hook it up in this way. Two other thing, I found is that the grub screw on the air control knob came loose a couple of times, and the stove wasnt getting air. Is there a baffle in the stove? It looks like a piece of chip board at the top of the firebox? If it is missing it can effect your output.

You should give Murphy's a shout, I'm sure they would help you out.

Thanks for all the inputs people.

There is a baffle all right. And the controls all seem ok.

I'll give Murphys a shout and see what they say.

I'll get the chimney swept and maybe invest in some kiln dried logs while I'm at it.

    Hi there,There
Did you find a specialist in Galway to come and have a look?!
I'm renting a house at the moment and they have this (could only find exact one on a sold adverts page) Nestor Martin -
    http://www.adverts.ie/heating/nestor-martin-multifuel-stove-8kw/1005570

in the living room (to just heat that room, it's not connected to a boiler or anything).

It heats up the room, if anything too well... it's all or nothing, boiling hot or freezing! And burns through approx x4 new kiln dried oak logs that I got from ecofuel last week in less than an hour, with the vent closed and teh ash pan vent closed also..

Could there be something simple that I can't see on the back that could fix it from burning too fast?!

There are the two poker handle things at the back (on the top right hand side) but I'm not sure what they're for... for the ashes maybe?

    Thanks
